The Opportunity…

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instructional Designer, ideally with a background in the Medicare and/or broader insurance industry, to design, develop, and evaluate high-impact learning solutions. You will create training that drives performance and closes skill gaps for key roles within our organization (e.g., agents, member services, operations staff). This role requires expertise in instructional systems design, adult learning theory, and the ability to translate complex insurance concepts, product details, system workflows, and regulatory requirements (like CMS guidelines) into clear, engaging instructor-led and digital learning experiences tailored to a diverse audience.

We are currently accepting applications only from candidates residing in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

How You'll Contribute…

Instructional Design & Development:

  • Conduct needs assessments, job/task analyses, and audience analysis to define performance gaps and define learning objectives within the context of insurance operations and customer interactions.

  • Design interactive, visually appealing learning experiences using effective instructional materials focused on Medicare plans, insurance products, sales processes, claims handling, system workflows, and compliance mandates (e.g., HIPAA, CMS regulations), including:

    • Instructor-Led Training (ILT) and Virtual ILT

    • eLearning modules and multimedia content

    • On-the-Job training programs

    • Assessments, job aids, tip sheets, and performance support tools

  • Apply adult learning theory to instructional strategies that promote knowledge retention and skill development for complex or frequently changing insurance topics.

  • Plan activities that enhance learning transfer and address different learner styles.

  • Develop storyboards, scripts, and prototypes for SCORM-compliant eLearning.

  • Identify content suitable for digital delivery and determine the appropriate use of multimedia to explain intricate insurance processes or regulations.

  • Redesign or update existing training materials based on learner feedback, performance metrics, and evolving business needs, product launches, or regulatory changes common in the insurance/healthcare sector.

Consulting & Collaboration:

  • Proactively partner and communicate with stakeholders, SMEs (from areas like Compliance, Sales, Member Services), and cross-functional teams to align learning solutions with business goals and learner needs within the insurance/Medicare landscape.

  • Influence and negotiate with business partners to determine effective training strategies that drive measurable results.

  • Schedule and facilitate train-the-trainer sessions with stakeholders and facilitators to align content structure, learning objectives, and delivery strategies.

Project Management:

  • Create and manage project plans, timelines, and deliverables to ensure training initiatives are completed on time and within scope.

  • Coordinate with external partners and vendors to manage outsourced content development and ensure alignment with standards.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Maintain ownership of existing training materials, ensuring content remains current, accurate, and aligned with organizational processes and industry standards.

  • Plan and conduct user acceptance testing and gather learner feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Design and implement training evaluations to measure knowledge acquisition and business impact, particularly regarding compliance adherence and operational efficiency.

  • Analyze feedback and assessment data to refine content and delivery methods.

What We're Looking For...
  • 3+ years of proven success in instructional design and curriculum development, particularly in a fully virtual setting.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing training materials related to health insurance, Medicare, or other lines of insurance (e.g., P&C, ACA, Life).

  • Proficient in Articulate 360, LMS platforms, Microsoft Office, and other creative design tools; stays current with emerging technologies and instructional design innovations.

  • Expertise with adult learning principles, ADDIE/SAM methodologies, and creative design software.

  • Ability to tailor content for different audiences, including variations in culture, age, and accessibility.

  • Strong understanding of sales processes and customer experiences, particularly within the insurance or healthcare service environment.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence, and exchange feedback effectively across all levels.

  • Ability to be proactive, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and work independently.

  • Ability to analyze organizational needs and recommend strategic learning solutions.

  • Direct work experience or significant project experience within a health plan, insurance carrier, brokerage, TPA, or related healthcare/financial services organization.

  • Proven ability to translate complex regulatory information (e.g., CMS guidelines, state insurance regulations) into clear and actionable learning content.
