POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Artistic Director, the General Stage Manager oversees the Stage Management team to maintain the highest quality, safe and consistent operations of House of Dancing Water for the show and any of its related activities. The General Stage Manager must possess problem solving skills and strong interpersonal skills to respond and react to unexpected situations, varied schedule, and tight deadlines. To communicate and collaborate with all internal and external departments, parties, suppliers, vendors, and develop a strong partnership within the Artistic, Technical and Customer Service departments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the Stage Management team to maintain the highest quality, safe and consistent operations for the performers in the show including activities as related to special events, promotional activities and marketing initiatives.
  • Manage the Stage Management team to schedule the daily schedules, rehearsal and training operations and run the daily performances.
  • Refine and review the performance script, show, training, and staging reports; maintaining the data assembly and interface with other departments (Coaching, Performer Wellness and Show Support). 
  • Design and call the show cues as necessary for each performance week.
  • Collaborate with Artistic Management, Performer Wellness, Coach, and Technical to formulate, rehearse and implement safety plans and procedures for the stage all performance related areas of the theatre.
  • Coordinate the implementation of changes within the show with appropriate departments technical and otherwise.
  • Participate in the decision-making process concerning changes made to training or performances in the event of injury or illness of a performer or any other occurrence, which might cause modifications to the normal process of training, or performance.
  • With Artistic and Technical departments, coordinate the schedule for training, creation, technical rehearsals, costume fittings and any other special events and communicate the daily schedule for the production to appropriate parties.
  • Prepare, maintain and monitor budget, forecasts and expenses on an ongoing basis.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Ability to read and communicate in English, Cantonese / Mandarin a strong recommendation.
  • Unwavering professionalism of presentation, behaviour and fairness.
  • Timely completion of delegated tasks with accuracy

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience 

  • A minimum of six (6) years experience in stage management for large scale, location based, live theatrical production with no less than 2 years as a Production Stage Manager or General Stage Manager
  • A minimum of three years of Show Caller experience on a large scale, location based, live theatrical production

Education

  • University graduate

  • Must possess problem solving skills and strong interpersonal skills with proven skills in leadership and teamwork
  • Must be flexible and able to quickly adapt to unexpected situations, to work with a varied schedule and tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to demonstrate and inspire complete trust and integrity
  • Knowledge and understanding of automations, fluid effects and rigging which apply to cueing and creating a safe work environment for performers and crew
  • Professional maturity; to work comfortably in a multicultural environment
  • Flexibility to change direction midstream to accommodate volatile needs
  • Fully developed fluency in English; written, read and spoken is essential
  • Comfort with ambiguity and with a fluid, creative organization

Skills Required
