General Foremen oversee the daily construction activities on the work site. They are responsible for the overall progress of the project along with the scheduling of company workers, subcontractors and the delivery of equipment and materials. A site foreman must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures and the ability to coordinate various teams of, in excess of 25, workers on the job site. LIAISES WITH: Project manager, Project director, Project quantity surveyor, Subcontractors and Client.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


SITE MANAGEMENT
  • Full supervision of all assigned company and subcontract workers.
  • Mentorship where applicable.
  • To ensure manpower and resources are adequate at all times.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all assigned workers are at their work stations and working positively during the working day. This includes ensuring that every worker is at their work station at or before the start of the working day and up to the end of the working shift.
  • To ensure all workers are always aware of the nature of work assigned to them at all times and whether it is an hourly paying job or job work.
  • To ensure that all tasks are done on a measured basis, i.e. On job work, wherever and whenever possible.
  • To make sure that all tools are used and cared for properly.
  • Review of project plans and specifications before construction and comment on the design, scheduling, possible code violations and possible cost saving measures.
  • Responsible for monitoring all job work on a daily basis and relaying this information to the Site manager and Project manager.
  • Attend weekly job-site meetings with all subcontractors, chaired by the project manager.
  • Completion of detailed daily log in Procore, listing number of workers and subcontractors, each activity carried out during the course of the day and the location of the works carried out along with any other pertinent information, such as, safety issues, visitors etc.
  • To maintain oversight of small tools and equipment on site, including establishment of best practice operational procedures amongst site staff and subcontractors.


FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • Compile in a neat and orderly manner all job work on a daily basis for submission to the project manager no later than Saturday each week.
  • Compile all necessary information for changes to the original scope of works, such as additional materials and the labor and time taken to carry out said works. These are to be given to the Project Manager and or Project Quantity Surveyor for compilation of total costs.
  • Control and monitor labor, material, equipment expenses.


CLIENT MANAGEMENT
  • Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions and strategies in conjunction with the Project Manager


Requirements
EDUCATION

Secondary school education. A degree in trade or management would be useful.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five years experience in a construction-related field.


Technical Understanding
  • Proficient in reading, clearly understanding and interpreting different drawing sets, including but not limited to; architectural, structural, ID and MEP drawings.
  • Knowledge of and an ability to perform basic layout functions, take levels and data references.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of local building code regulations.
  • In-depth understanding of the construction industry.
  • Preparation of weekly reports.


Computer Skills
  • Proficient with project management software, such as PROCORE or similar
  • Proficient with payroll time and attendance system on receipt of training
  • Approving and signing of all times worked by employees and subcontractors.


ENSURE THE COMPANY’S QUALITY CONTOL PLAN IS IMPLEMENTED AS PER BELOW:
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of work or service non-conformity. It is the foreman’s responsibility to intercede and stop unsatisfactory work.
  • Identify and record any quality problems.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming work until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been rectified.
  • Ensure adequate protection of all installed materials.
  • Assist/accompany QC inspections.

Skills Required

  • Minimum 5 years experience in construction

  • Secondary school education, degree in trade or management preferred
