Job Description
We are actively hiring for a dedicated General Counsel to lead and manage all legal affairs within the organization. This position will report to the CEO and will provide strategic legal advice and counsel on a diverse array of matters including, but not limited to, contracts and agreements, regulatory compliance, employment law, and intellectual property. This role requires a legal professional who is not only adept at mitigating risks but also at seizing opportunities that align with our business objectives.
A Day in the Life:
- Develop and implement legal strategies that support the company’s business goals. Provide proactive legal advice to the organization.
- Review, negotiate, and finalize various contracts and customer license agreements ensuring that the company’s interests are protected and regulatory requirements are met.
- Advise on employment-related matters including employment agreements, employee relations, labor law compliance, and employment litigation.
- Assist with legal processes related to company expansion, including mergers and acquisitions, international ventures, and strategic partnerships. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations in new markets.
- Manage and protect the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
- Represent the company in court and other legal proceedings.
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, including coordinating with external legal counsel as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including industry specific regulations.
- Prepare and file legal documents. Maintain accurate and organized legal records and documentation.
- Address and manage issues related to customer delinquencies.
- Identify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including interpersonal relations, drafting contracts, negotiation, and formally presenting information.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Knowledge of corporate law and procedures, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
Education and Experience:
- JD from an American Bar Association accredited law school
- Active member of the Maryland bar
- 1-2 years of experience in corporate law, with experience in a general counsel or corporate legal counsel role
