GAAP Financial Reporting Specialist

About the Role:
The GAAP Financial Reporting Specialist is a key member of the Controller's Financial Reporting team and plays an integral role in supporting the Company's U.S. GAAP reporting obligations. This position is responsible for preparing internal and external financial reports, supporting the annual audit process, conducting technical accounting research, and contributing to the continued implementation and enhancement of Workday Financials.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a complex, multi-entity insurance organization while gaining broad exposure to financial reporting, regulatory requirements, accounting guidance, and cross-functional business initiatives. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, enjoys solving complex accounting challenges, and is motivated to contribute to process improvements and evolving reporting practices.
While the ideal candidate will be based in or near the New Orleans, LA area, we are open to considering highly qualified candidates located elsewhere within the Central or Eastern Time Zone.
Essential Functions:
Prepare GAAP Financial Reports for Internal and External Users
Pan-American Life Insurance Group operates in a complex, multi-entity accounting environment with significant financial reporting responsibilities. In this role, you will:
- Compile annual U.S. GAAP financial statements for insurance companies within the Company’s consolidated footprint
- Prepare interim (quarterly) and annual reporting for regulators
- Prepare monthly and quarterly U.S. GAAP financial statements for internal use
- Manage filing deadlines and ensure all filings are completed within required regulatory timelines
Assist with the Implementation of Workday Financials for U.S. GAAP Reporting
As PALIG continues its global transition to Workday Financials, the Financial Reporting team plays a critical role in ensuring the system supports the organization’s reporting needs. In this role, you will:
- Work with the Financial Reporting team to ensure the foundational components of financial statement reporting are accurate and complete within Workday
- Ensure U.S. GAAP reports generated from Workday are complete, accurate, and support business reporting needs
Support the Annual External Audit Process
The Company's annual U.S. GAAP financial statements are subject to external audit. In this role, you will:
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for audit purposes
- Support the external audit process by responding to auditor requests and providing supporting documentation as needed
Accounting Research and Consultation
New accounting guidance and changing business circumstances require the Company to maintain current and consistent accounting policies and practices. In this role, you will:
- Assist with research related to changes in U.S. GAAP requirements
- Assist with the documentation of accounting policies and related updates
- Evaluate changes in the business, including transactions, that may require reassessment of accounting policies
Education & Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience
- Public accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including Long-Duration Targeted Improvements (LDTI)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Preferred:
- CPA designation or active CPA candidacy
- Proficiency in Workday Financials
- Three or more years of insurance industry financial reporting experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Excellent math and computer skills
- Ability to identify issues in a global work environment
- Ability to recognize relationships among various reports and results and identify trends through comparative analysis
- Ability to work with report-specific software as well as Microsoft Office products
