A day in the life
The G&A Accountant supports accurate and timely financial accounting for our European business within the G&A Accounting team in Amsterdam. The role owns core accounting activities across G&A and non-operating expenses, accruals, prepayments, payroll-related transactions and general ledger reconciliations.. They work regularly with Compliance, Corporate Accounting, Intercompany, AP/AR, FP&A, and global accounting operations teams to support reporting, and explain variances. The role also contributes to process documentation and efficiency improvements across accounting activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure correctness, timeliness and completeness of assigned P&L accounts, by maintaining a clear understanding of activities and ledgers
- Review G&A and non-operating expenses, calculate and record related accruals and prepaids, and reconcile the associated general ledger accounts.
- Record and reconcile payroll-related transactions.
- Process and align intercompany recharges for assigned entities and accounts.
- Analyze and explain variances between actuals and forecast for FP&A and accounting leadership.
- Provide accounting treatment information under US GAAP and Local GAAP, support internal reporting, and provide accounting information to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Improve accounting processes through process documentation, efficiency gains, and assigned special projects.
Building blocks for success
Required:
- 1+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Ability to apply accounting principles accurately across general ledger accounts, accruals, prepaids, payroll-related transactions, and reconciliations.
- Ability to analyze financial data and communicate variances and proposed resolutions clearly and concisely.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments to meet deadlines with accuracy.
- Consistent attention to detail and accuracy in accounting work.
- Proficient in Excel
- Fluent English, spoken and written.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting or Business preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in a global, multi-entity public organization or public accounting environment.
- Experience using PeopleSoft or other accounting and general ledger systems.
- Demonstrated record of improving accounting processes or documenting process improvements.
- Demonstrates willingness and capability to leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed. Exercises sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.
