What You Will Do

• Drive features end-to-end with guidance: contribute to requirement scoping, implement the backend against an agreed API contract and data model, ship it, and maintain monitoring, logging and dashboards for the services you work on. This is a backend-primary role — when a feature requires a developer console page, you are expected to ship a functional UI with AI assistance. Strong frontend skills are not required

• Build and operate backend services for the Plaud Developer Platform: developer-facing REST APIs (e.g. ASR / TTS, file upload and asynchronous job processing), webhooks, API-key and token authentication, organization and role models, usage metering, rate limiting and billing.

• Build and maintain the developer surface: server SDKs, API reference and guides, sample code, onboarding flows in the Developer Console, and developer tooling such as the CLI and MCP server.

• Contribute to making the platform production-grade: multi-tenant isolation, idempotency and retry semantics, backward-compatible API versioning, and security and compliance requirements (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA) — working closely with senior engineers on architecture and cross-cutting decisions.

• Work AI-natively: use coding agents (Claude Code, Codex) every day for planning, implementation, tests, debugging and code review; build and share team skills and context files; keep critical judgment over AI-generated code on edge cases, security and performance.

• Collaborate with the device, voice AI, consumer-app and SRE teams to deliver cross-system features, and occasionally join customer calls to understand integration needs. This is a product-engineering role, not a forward-deployed or solutions-engineering role.

What We Look For

• 3–5 years of backend engineering experience, ideally on platforms, public APIs or developer-facing products, with at least one service you contributed to designing, shipping and operating in production.

• Strong in Go or Python (our backend is Go and Python). You do not need to be a frontend engineer, but you can build and maintain a simple web page with AI assistance when your feature needs one.

• Solid fundamentals: API design, relational data modelling, caching, message queues, asynchronous / background processing, authentication and authorization basics, and observability.

• Hands-on delivery experience: CI/CD, deployment, monitoring and alerting, and on-call exposure for services you have worked on. You have a working understanding of your service's QPS, latency and resource footprint.

• Hands-on, daily use of AI coding agents in real work — not just autocomplete: planning → implementing → testing → reviewing with agents, writing your own skills or context files, and concrete examples of where you caught the agent being wrong.

• Able to work independently on well-scoped problems: given a clear problem statement and API contract, you can drive implementation to production with minimal guidance — and flag ambiguity early rather than block.

• Clear communication across time zones (Singapore / Beijing / Silicon Valley). You are comfortable working asynchronously with distributed teams and can communicate technical decisions clearly in writing and in meetings.

• Multi-tenant SaaS, billing / metering, or API gateway experience

• Experience building MCP servers, CLIs or other agent-facing tooling

• Experience with voice AI (ASR / TTS / real-time audio) or hardware / IoT device backends

• Multi-region deployments and data-residency compliance (EU / APAC / CN)
