Colombo (hybrid) - Full-time - USD 700-1,500/month (LKR 231,000-495,000/month) + share options after confirmation
The role
Boring Host AI is building the AI operating layer for hospitality. We are starting with short-term rental operators and solving for a $32B property management software category where teams still run daily operations across disconnected systems, inboxes, spreadsheets, and manual follow-up.
We are also deliberately AI-native. Coding agents write a large share of the code; the engineer's job is to give them the right context, review every diff, catch subtle failures, and build the guardrails that make this workflow safe in production.
What you will own
PMS integrations: production adapters for Hospitable, Hostaway, and Guesty; future integrations across Track, Streamline, OwnerRez, Beds24, Lodgify, and SuperControl.
Smart adapter architecture: every PMS has different APIs, rate limits, webhook behavior, messaging support, reservation models, and property knowledge formats. Your job is to normalize that without leaking PMS-specific logic across the app.
Multi-tenancy: strict tenant isolation, tenant-scoped queries, per-tenant PMS config, auth and workspace handling, and safe data access. This is the main place careless engineering can create serious bugs.
Guest operations automation: unified inbox, WhatsApp/SMS, Vapi voice calls, AI agents, human handoff, review requests, owner updates, and property knowledge.
AI-native engineering: turning Linear issues into clear agent tasks, reviewing AI-generated code, tightening prompts and context, adding tests and evals, and improving the workflow so agents can ship safely.
Reliability: durable webhooks, polling and reconciliation, background workers, idempotent syncs, retries, monitoring, alerts, and tests.
Product surfaces: dashboard, settings, inbox, analytics, public review widgets, and tools that make onboarding new property managers faster.
Stack
Backend: Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Postgres/Neon
Workers: Dramatiq, Redis/Upstash, scheduled syncs, and webhook processing
Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript
AI/LLMOps: OpenAI Agents SDK, Langfuse, prompt catalog, evals
Messaging and integrations: Twilio, WhatsApp, Vapi, Hookdeck, Clerk, PMS APIs
AI-native workflow: Claude Code, Codex, Linear, GitHub PRs, CI, tests, AI code review
Compensation
USD 700-1,500/month (LKR 231,000-495,000/month), reviewed at 6 months, with a 6-month probation period
Share options after confirmation, with grant details in the offer letter
Dedicated Codex and Claude Code Pro tooling for work and personal use and development
Ideal traits
Customer-oriented builder: you care whether what you ship actually works in production, not just whether it looks done in a demo.
Strong engineer: you have built and deployed real systems. Python, FastAPI, Docker, and cloud infrastructure experience are especially useful.
AI-native engineering mindset: you already use coding agents seriously. You know they are powerful and dangerous: great at generating surface area, weak at judgment, context, security, edge cases, and verification.
Independent and decisive: you can operate in ambiguity, make informed calls, and keep moving without perfect direction.
Strong communicator: you can explain tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical people.
High ownership: startups are demanding; we value intensity, pride in craft, and people who take responsibility for outcomes.
You should also be able to read unfamiliar code, trace bugs across API, worker, database, frontend, and third-party APIs, review AI-generated diffs carefully, and write tests around risky areas like tenancy, sync logic, and integrations.
You do not need years of professional experience. You do need proof that you have built real things and can learn quickly.
Location
Office 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 14 Sir Baron Jayathilake Mawatha, Colombo 00100. Remaining days remote.
How we hire
Application: we review your CV or LinkedIn, a link to something you have built, and your short note on how you use AI coding agents. We are looking for evidence that you can ship real work and explain your decisions clearly.
Technical interview: a 60-minute working session on a small Boring Host AI task using an AI coding agent. We look at how you set context, guide the agent, inspect the diff, test the result, and communicate tradeoffs.
Code review: you review a prepared PR with planted issues around multi-tenancy, integrations, data safety, and edge cases. We care about the risks you spot and how clearly you explain them.
Paid trial week: a real scoped Boring Host AI product ticket, paid regardless of outcome. You get a realistic feel for the work, and we look at ownership, reliability, communication, and how you verify what ships.
Offer: if it is a fit, we put the salary, 6-month review and probation terms, share options, tooling, and start date in writing.
To apply, complete this form with your CV or LinkedIn, a link to something you've built, and 2-3 sentences on how you use AI coding agents today.

What We Do
Boring Host AI is building an AI-powered hospitality platform for short-term rental property managers. Its software deploys teams of AI agents across the guest journey, operations, revenue management, and owner management. The platform aims to replace fragmented workflows involving guest messages, tasks, cleaners, maintenance, vendors, and owner updates, helping rental businesses automate operations and deliver more consistent, personalized hospitality at scale.
