Join our team as a FOIP Specialist and play a key role in supporting the rights of individuals to access information held by WCB and support the protection of privacy in compliance with applicable access to information and privacy legislation. Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, you’ll be an integral part of the FOIP Office, delivering services to support the office and compliance with legislation effectively and efficiently.
Your responsibilities:
- Process requests received in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.
- Provide advice and recommendations and make decisions on access to information and privacy matters based on knowledge of legislation, OIPC orders, case law, policy, and best practices.
- Help develop and maintain a privacy management framework, including supporting documentation such as procedures and processes.
- Develop, deliver and/or or update access and privacy training and awareness strategies or initiatives.
- Review privacy intake questionnaires to determine if a privacy impact assessment (PIA) is required.
- Review or write PIAs for projects, systems and initiatives and participate in project meetings as required.
- Review research proposals involving personal information and provide feedback and recommendations to protect privacy.
- Update the Personal Information Banks (PIBs) directory as needed.
- Prepare reports and metrics on FOIP Office activities and work.
- Conduct or support privacy investigations in response to incidents or complaints.
- Respond to and investigate privacy breaches, including root cause analysis and remedial actions.
- Respond or assist in preparing responses to OIPC reviews, investigations or inquiries.
- Perform other related duties.
Your experience and skills:
- University degree in a related field or equivalent education, training and experience in access and privacy legislation. CIAPP, CIPP/C or University of Alberta IAPP program completion is an asset.
- Experience in processing FOIP requests and applying knowledge of relevant access and privacy legislation.
- Ability to respect and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of individuals and the information you have access to while undertaking the functions of the role.
- Experience in assisting in the development and maintenance of a privacy management framework, which may include developing procedures, standards, or other supporting documentation is an asset.
- Experience developing and delivering privacy training and awareness modules and awareness materials.
- Knowledge of records management principles is an asset.
- Experience in writing and/or reviewing PIAs is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and carefully with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions on sensitive or time-sensitive issues, and demonstrate sound judgement.
- Skilled in working effectively with clients and partners and building trusted relationships.
- Strong organizational, time management and adaptability skills to manage changing priorities.
- Proficient in using electronic resources, systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat and the ability to learn new software or applications as required.

Salary: $80,762 to $94,976 per annum (Pay Grade 11)
Final candidates for this position are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment. Successful candidate must reside in Alberta and be able to work in person in our Edmonton downtown office as required by their position.
