Responsibilities include the development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Physics-Based Models and Simulation supporting the design, testing, and integration of weapon systems and components. The position is within the Fluid and Thermal Sciences group of the Applied Physics department. The group is responsible for executing the thermal and fluid analysis and testing of weapon systems. The candidate will be responsible for developing and using numerical and semi-empirical models to enhance the understanding and support the design process in broad areas involving fluid and thermal. The candidate must be able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment, project leadership, mentor, and guide the work of junior team members.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and 6 years of experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer
- Demonstrated experience in development and implementation of Physics-based models
- Solid understanding of underlying principles of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary group.
- Practical understanding of heating and cooling systems.
- Hands-on experience with instrumented hardware testing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master's and PhD degrees in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with emphasis in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
- Demonstrated ability to abstract problems to tractable forms
- Hands-on relevant experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis including model development, model validation, and interpretation of results.
- Experience with military vehicle systems, subsystems, or components for power generation, power distribution and survivability.
- Experience with leveraging CFD/thermal analysis tools to perform detailed component level analysis to assess cooling performance of electronic components under realistic forcing condition.
- Demonstrated ability in working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to understand objectives, gather information, plan and execute analysis, and communicate results across the organization to decision makers.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762
