The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced Flight Test Instrumentation and Calibration Laboratory Lead Engineer to join our team in Ridley Park, PA.
This position will support domestic and foreign military flight testing of H-47 Chinook, AH-64 Apache & MH-139 Grey Wolf helicopters. The lab lead, working with a team of technicians, will be responsible for daily calibration lab operation, collaborate on electrical design/build of Flight Test Data Acquisition Systems, support of deployed systems, and technological modernization within the Vertical Lift flight test team.
Position Responsibilities:
- Engineering authority for calibrations
- Laboratory leadership and integration with teammates and other flight test disciplines
- Develop calibration procedures
- Collaborate on all electrical design and build of Flight Test Data Acquisition Systems
- Generate electrical schematics using Visio or available CAD system
- Provide real-time support for commissioned data systems to resolve problems in the field
- Maintain Boeing lab standards and reporting
- Analyze, review, and validate hardware and software for readiness
- Conduct research in test technologies to improve efficiency and capability
- Specify and validate new transducers and applications
- Consults with team members, management, and technical staff to define and implement test engineering solutions
- Lead team of technicians
- Work under consultative direction
- Trains and coaches others
- Manage inventories
- Enterprise engagement to standardize processes and procedures
- Assist Management in Lab Staffing and performance evaluations
- Potential travel to support flight testing
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- 5+ years of engineering in ground/flight test engineering environments
- 5+ years of experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- 5+ years of experience with precision test and measurement devices
- Experience developing and maintaining engineering standards and procedures
- Willing to travel domestically or internationally as needed
- Must be able to work flexible hours, overtime and occasional weekends when necessary
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 7+ years of experience with planning, design, build, checkout, and commissioning of instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Advanced understanding of sensor physics, time-division multiplex, data acquisition systems, telemetry, and calibration methods.
- Advanced electrical design knowledge
- Experience with electronic system level down to component trouble shooting and repair.
- Experience supporting military flight test programs
- Experience leading a lab environment
- Experience with L3, SAFRAN, or TELETRONICS data acquisition systems
- Experience with IADS visualization tools
- Experience in C, Python, and Linux
- Experience in NIST traceable calibration systems and applications
- Experience authoring calibration procedures
