Financial Operations AnalystAbout the role

Orion is looking for a Financial Operations Analyst to join our Financial Operations team. This is a full-time, remote role reporting to the Director of Investing Operations.

This is not a traditional operations role. We are looking for someone who can support the day-to-day needs of Financial Operations while also helping us redesign, automate, and improve how work gets done.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, strong in finance and reconciliations, comfortable working with operational data, and motivated to reduce manual work through automation, better controls, and AI-first ways of working.

We want someone who does not simply execute existing processes, but actively questions inefficient workflows and looks for better, faster, more scalable ways to operate.
Compensation: $60,000 – $80,000 CAD base + performance bonus + equity

What you’ll do
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly Financial Operations tasks, including reconciliations, transaction monitoring, cash movement review, operational reporting, and fund operations support.
  • Support fund accounting and investment operations processes, including deposits, withdrawals, subscriptions, redemptions, returned items, account activity reviews, and balance updates.
  • Investigate and resolve operational breaks, data discrepancies, failed transactions, returned items, reconciliation issues, and other exceptions in a timely and controlled manner.
  • Identify, challenge, and improve manual workflows by designing practical automation solutions that reduce repetitive work, improve accuracy, and strengthen operational controls.
  • Own automation opportunities from problem identification through workflow mapping, build, testing, documentation, and ongoing improvement.
  • Build and maintain Excel-based and code-assisted operational tools, including advanced spreadsheets, VBA/macros, Python scripts, templates, and recurring reporting files.
  • Use AI tools as a default part of daily work, including research, analysis, coding support, reconciliation review, documentation, testing, workflow redesign, and process improvement.
  • Document workflows, process logic, exceptions, controls, and runbooks so operational processes become repeatable, scalable, and less dependent on individual knowledge.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Finance, and external vendors to move operational priorities forward and support automation and systems-improvement initiatives.
What we’re looking for
  • 2–4+ years of experience in financial operations, fund operations, fund accounting, investment operations, brokerage operations, automation, business systems, or a related finance/operations role.
  • Strong Excel skills, including advanced formulas, data analysis, reconciliations, and experience building or maintaining Excel macros/VBA-enabled files.
  • Working knowledge of automation and coding, ideally including VBA and Python.
  • Practical experience using AI tools, copilots, or agent-based workflows to accelerate analysis, coding, testing, documentation, reconciliation review, or process improvement.
  • Examples of tools, scripts, macros, automations, or AI-assisted workflows you have personally built, improved, or used to reduce manual work.
  • Understanding of fund accounting concepts, investment transactions, reconciliations, cash movements, subscriptions, redemptions, returned items, and client account activity.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to investigate and resolve operational breaks, discrepancies, and data quality issues.
  • High ownership mindset with strong follow-through, sound judgment, and comfort operating with limited guidance in ambiguous or evolving situations.
  • Low tolerance for repetitive manual work and a habit of questioning inefficient processes.
  • Strong curiosity, learning velocity, and willingness to continuously improve how work is done through automation, documentation, AI tools, and better controls.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Helpful to have
  • Experience in fintech, wealth management, brokerage operations, investment operations, or fund accounting.
  • Experience with registered and non-registered investment accounts, reconciliations, custody workflows, or client account activity.
  • Experience working with CSV files, flat files, APIs, data transformations, operational reports, or multi-system workflows.
  • Familiarity with IRESS, NDEX, or similar investment accounting / back-office systems.
  • Experience building internal tools or automation solutions that were adopted by a business or operations team.
How success will be measured
  • Reduced manual work across recurring Financial Operations workflows.
  • Improved accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of reconciliations, reporting, and operational processes.
  • Fewer recurring operational errors and stronger process controls.
  • Lower key-person dependency through better documentation, runbooks, and repeatable workflows.
  • Multiple meaningful workflows automated or materially improved within the first 6 months.
  • Clear identification of future automation opportunities and practical improvements.
