We are seeking a candidate based in India to align with our “Office First” strategy, while collaborating with a geographically distributed team that supports both our UK and European entities.

About us
At Modulr our mission is to move money efficiently to power business productivity. We are building a new digital payments service to make money flow more efficiently through businesses and the economy. This is a new type of payments account that is built for businesses that need faster, easier and more reliable ways to move money.
Our flexible platform and innovative approach allows our customers to utilise our payments account instead of a traditional bank account. Our accounts come with a sort code and account number, access to payment systems (eg Faster Payments and Visa) and everything our customers need from a payments account. They can instantly open as many accounts as they need, automate how they make and receive payments as well as the reconciliation processes these create. All in real time, 24/7 through their own systems utilising our API that integrates into any platform.
Our founding team has a wealth of experience in the payments industry and growing successful businesses. Modulr is backed by payments giants PayPal Ventures and FIS Ventures, as well as startup and scale up specialists Blenheim Chalcot, General Atlantic, Frog and Highland Europe which enables us to leverage their resources and expertise to drive our growth initiatives. These partnerships provide us with the necessary provisions to propel our business to new heights.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Financial Crime Analyst to join our Transaction Monitoring team. This role plays a key part in maintaining regulatory compliance by investigating flagged transactions to detect money laundering, fraud, and terrorist financing. You will review automated alerts, research account history, and prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to ensure compliance with regulations.
You will report into the Transaction Monitoring Team Manager and work closely with colleagues across Financial Crime Operations to ensure payments held due to monitoring rules are investigated within required timescales, and that SARs and UTRs are submitted on behalf of Modulr to relevant external bodies where necessary.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to deepen their expertise in financial crime risk management and compliance within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
•Alert Triage: Review automated transaction monitoring alerts to determine if the activity aligns with the customer's expected profile, escalating or closing alerts based on risk-based analysis.
•Investigations: Perform deep-dive analysis by checking historical account behaviours, cross-referencing watchlists, and evaluating geographic and typology risk.
•Reporting: Document case rationales clearly and, when necessary, draft and file SARs and UTRs with the FIU and other relevant external bodies within required timescales.
•Process Improvement: Identify system and process trends, report false positives, and update internal compliance teams on emerging financial crime typologies.
•Take ownership of quality control by reviewing your own cases for accuracy and completeness, addressing errors proactively, and meeting internal QC benchmarks.
•Collaborating with other teams such as Screening, Fraud, Complex Investigations, and CDD/Onboarding where required to support risk assessments and process alignment.

About you:
•You have experience working in financial crime within a regulated environment (payments, banking, or fintech).
•You're detail‑oriented and comfortable following structured processes while maintaining accuracy under time pressure.
•You can understand and manage priorities effectively, ensuring the most critical tasks are completed first without compromising quality.
•You take ownership of your work, including quality control, and strive to meet or exceed SLAs.

•You communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally, with internal teams and external partners.
•You have an analytical mindset and can spot patterns or anomalies that may indicate emerging risks.
•You are focused on delivering a great service to “customers,” whether they are clients of Modulr, regulators, internal stakeholders, or broader industry participants.
•You enjoy rolling up your sleeves and doing whatever is required to achieve the goals of the operations team and wider business.
•You are inquisitive and take a proactive approach to problem solving and issue resolution.

Skills and experience:
•Experience working in financial services with a solid understanding of financial crime; a focus on transaction monitoring/AML is desirable but not essential.
•Good knowledge of money laundering, terrorist financing and fraud typologies and investigation skills.
•You should understand the regulatory landscape Modulr operates in.
•Strong communication skills for engaging with internal teams and external partners.
•Ability to work under pressure and meet strict SLAs without compromising accuracy.
•Proactive in suggesting enhancements to workflows, documentation and procedures.

What We Do

Modulr has grown to become the leading provider of embedded payments to organisations across the UK and Europe. Embedded payments is a new category that permits payments to become part of organisations’ technology stack, upgrading them to become payments companies themselves. Modulr enables over 200 enterprise customers and thousands of SME customers to embed account creation, payment out, reconciliation of payment in, card issuing and many open banking and similar features into their own business process flows via API calls and webhooks into Modulr’s cloud platform. Core to Modulr’s success has been the platform itself, Modulr’s regulatory status as an EMI in the UK and Europe, its connections to payments and other financial service schemes, its ability to operate at scale, and its compliance rigour. Today Modulr handles over £100bn of annualised payment volume and its platform handles, on average, 30 API calls per second
