A fascinating and unique fixed term contract has arisen for a Financial Controller to join our Treatment finance team for a period of 12 months. 

This opporttunity presents an excellent chance for an ambitious finance professional looking to enhance their career trajectory or broaden their experience.

The role is a senior position reporting directly into the Head of Central Finance - Treatment.  This one of a kind opportunity will see you both partner with operations to lead the strategic direction of the landfill business which includes composting, roadsweeping, IBA facilities and other alternative land use and collaborate with the wider Treatment business on both Group reporting requirements and our statutory accounts process including supporting on a number of technical accounting papers. You will have responsibility over financial oversight and compliance included within our provisions accounting, process improvement and risk management, statutory accounts compliance, leadership and team management, stakeholder collaboration, strategic decision support and sustainability integration.

You will lead and support a large team of finance professionals and create a culture that supports continuous learning and high performance.

Key to success will be the ability to positively challenge the business, to gain a deep understanding of the operations and associated strategy to ensure excellence in financial support. 

The successful candidate will be an articulate confident and robust team player and will be responsible for: 

  • Production and review of the Landfill provisions to support audit and strategic decisions.

  • Collaboration on the statutory accounts process, made up of 24 legal entities, to ensure all deliverables are met, managing the relationship with the external auditors (both Constantin and BSG) for the Treatment business.

  • Completion and support of key revenue and audit papers

  • Provide consolidated and timely financial reports to management and operational stakeholders, collaborating on budget and forecasting development and monitoring

  • Preparation of impairment calculations and long term plans

  • Support sales and operations with financial analysis and pricing strategies, and assisting procurement in optimising vendor relationships

  • Help functions with financial feasibility of new initiatives

  • Respond to internal financial inquiries, explaining complex concepts clearly

  • Sponsor of Treatment finance initiative

  • Demonstrating the performance of the company against forecasts and key KPIs, utilising a number of systems including Workday, Tranman, Infor, PowerBI, Adaptive Planning.

  • A self driven individual with experience of Business Partnering, and a broad grounding of finance professional experience

  • Significant post qualified experience, including people management of a geographically dispersed team

  • High degree of system and data handling skills in particular standard office software products and ERP experience.
