About Midnight:

IOG's Midnight Tribe is a business technology provider and core contributor to the Midnight Network, a blockchain platform for developing decentralized applications that safeguard personal and commercial data. The Midnight Network is the first blockchain to offer programmable data isolation by leveraging zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to enable selective disclosure of what information is visible on-chain and is designed to help developers implement necessary business policies, such as meeting regulatory requirements.

What the role involves:

As the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and maintaining regulatory compliance. 

You will play a critical role in shaping the financial infrastructure of the company, implementing systems and processes that support our growth, and providing strategic financial insights to senior management. This will include defining the process and communication flow with outsourced accounting partners.

Financial Reporting:

• Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant accounting standards.
• Develop and maintain internal financial reports to monitor company performance.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
• Prepare financial forecasts and analyze variances between actuals and budget/forecasts.
• Provide insights and recommendations for cost management and revenue optimization.

Cash Management:

• Manage cash flow, including planning, forecasting, and monitoring.
• Optimize working capital and maintain liquidity.
• Oversee treasury functions and manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

• Design and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate external audits and manage the relationship with auditors.

Blockchain-Specific Responsibilities:

• Develop financial strategies for cryptocurrency management, including valuation, storage, and risk management.
• Monitor and report on the financial implications of blockchain-related transactions and smart contracts.
• Stay updated on evolving regulations in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space.

Financial Systems and Processes:

• Implement and maintain financial systems that support the company's growth and scalability, working closely with outsourced partners.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data through process automation and optimization.
• Collaborate with the tech team to integrate blockchain technology with financial reporting and control systems.

Strategic Financial Planning:

• Provide strategic recommendations to the executive team based on financial analysis and projections.
• Support fundraising efforts, including financial modeling and due diligence for potential investors.
• Evaluate investment opportunities and assess financial risks and returns.

Team Leadership:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a small finance team (in time).
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the finance function.
• Ensure the finance team is equipped with the tools and skills necessary to meet business objectives.

Who you are:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
• ACA, CPA or CIMA qualified.
• 5+ years of experience in finance, with at least 2 years in a senior finance role.
• Experience in a tech startup environment is highly desirable, with exposure to blockchain or cryptocurrency being a strong advantage.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with blockchain accounting tools is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing a finance team.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
