Job Description

Due to ongoing growth, our Dunedin-based finance team are on the search for a Financial Accountant. Based at our Dunedin city office, this role will support the Financial Accountant with month-end, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations analysis and review, quarterly group and annual statutory reporting, tax and audit support and routine finance system tasks. Additionally, it will assist with AP, payroll, and internal controls compliance initiatives and ad hoc finance activities as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the monthly financial accounting requirements for the NZ operations, including preparing period-end journals in Pronto, supporting the completion of month-end workpapers, and assisting with the monthly OneStream statutory financial consolidation package in line with the corporate month-end timetable.
  • Liaise with the management accounting teams to gather information and support the accurate and timely delivery of month-end reporting requirements.
  • Provide support documentation and respond to routine queries during quarterly audit reviews and the year-end annual audit.
  • Assist with the preparation of IRD compliance returns, including monthly GST, quarterly FBT returns, and income tax schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of the consolidated statutory financial statements for the New Zealand Group by preparing supporting schedules, reconciliations and audit documentation.
  • Support the AP and Payroll teams through routine administration in Redmap, basic invoice workflow support, and allocated AP and payroll review tasks.
  • Work with the wider team to progress internal controls improvements, remediation actions and SOX compliance initiatives.
  • Assist the NZ finance team with finance systems projects, upgrades, compliance activities and continuous improvement initiatives by completing allocated tasks, testing, documentation and user support activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Financial Accountant, wider finance team and site stakeholders to complete allocated tasks accurately and on time.
  • Identify opportunities to improve routine processes, documentation and reconciliations, and raise suggestions with the Financial Accountant or Superintendent – Financial Control. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Accounting, or equivalent tertiary qualification in accounting, or working towards completion of a relevant accounting qualification, is preferred.
  • Membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand is not required, however, future study towards CA or an equivalent professional qualification may be supported where appropriate.
  • Current NZ working Visa is required for this position. 

Experience

  • 1–2 years’ experience in finance and accounting plus exposure to month-end processes, reconciliations or compliance activities is desirable.

Skills Required

  • Current New Zealand working visa
  • Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Accounting, or equivalent tertiary accounting qualification
  • Working towards or willingness to study for professional accounting qualification (eg. CA)
  • 1-2 years' experience in finance and accounting with exposure to month-end processes and reconciliations
  • Experience or ability to prepare period-end journals and month-end workpapers (Pronto)
  • Experience or ability to assist with statutory consolidation and reporting (OneStream)
  • Ability to support AP and payroll administration tasks and basic invoice workflow (Redmap)
  • Ability to support audits, prepare reconciliations and compliance documentation
