Job Description Summary

Business Insurance Financial Planning & Analysis is a fast-paced department with high visibility to BI Leadership responsible for providing financial & analytical support to business partners across BI. In this role, responsible for leading a team in coordinating, conducting, and documenting complex financial analysis and/or reporting systems in support of market intelligence and strategic initiatives.

1.The market intelligence team analyzes economic, market and competitor information to keep the pulse of the industry and inform partners of any new or changing trends. Performs and validates financial analysis, both routine and ad hoc, to help interpret trends and variances in business performance, competitor results, distribution, and topics relevant to the P&C industry.
2.The strategic initiative team provides sophisticated and timely financial modeling & financial analyses to support the establishment of key results and key performance indicators (KPI's) and targets aligned to business objectives which ultimately influence the multi-year plan. Once KPI's are established, active engagement in the tracking and reporting of KPI's and their progress against established outcome targets.

Position does not manage others but will serve as a team lead. Team Lead: Directs daily work activities of a small group of employees. Works with higher level manager to set goals/objectives and provides input regarding performance of employees being led.

  • This position is both a team lead and an active contributor. To succeed in this role, one must work collaboratively up and down, across the BI FP&A Team, the broader finance organization, and a diverse group of business partners to actively understand their various analytics needs. In this role a deep industry knowledge and business acumen are essential allowing for the appreciation of the nuanced and detailed specifics of each request that would make successful deliverables.
  • In this role we are looking for someone with strong communication skills who can speak directly with employees at all levels including the executive leadership team.
  • This role will develop and implement an intake and prioritization model that increases output and captures maximum productivity of the group across the various ebbs and flows of deliverables from the units it supports.
  • This role will directly oversee the day-to-day activities of team members with the collective unit responsible for supporting our Strategic Investments unit and Market Intelligence deliverables.
  • Additionally, this team will provide support for ad hoc request that come to the BI FP&A Team.
  • Other responsibilities may include:
  • Assist in the design, preparation, evaluation, and validation of complex internal and/or external financial and operational reports, both routine and ad-hoc.
  • Perform and review analysis and interpretation of trends and variances in business performance, interacting with cross functional peers on a frequent basis. Validate analyses from Financial Leadership Development program participants for their respective competitors.
  • Synthesize and present exhibits, results, observations, recommendations to cross functional peers and management.
  • Identify, use, and train others on appropriate tools to obtain, compile and analyze more complex data necessary to support more advanced financial reports and analysis, and provide input on potential tool utilization enhancements.
  • Accountable for tactical production of overall strategic plan including an advanced understanding of impact of competitor, market, and industry landscape.
  • Perform and review financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.


Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred.
  • Typically 4+ years of related experience.
  • General knowledge of Financial Analysis concepts, principles and processes.


Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Strong desire to learn, research, and find answers to questions efficiently and completely.
  • Critical thinking, including learning the current state and effectively challenge the status quo when applicable.
  • Strong business partnership skills with the ability to consult and engage across functions and leadership levels.
  • Impeccable attention to detail, accuracy of numbers and formatting.
  • Strong Property Casualty knowledge and financial acumen are key.
  • Experience with business presentation efforts helpful but not required.
  • Knowledge of TM1 or key financial tools and systems helpful but not required.
  • Strong desire to learn, engage and take on complex assignments for senior leadership consumption.
  • Strong project and deadline management to support a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to participate and engage meaningfully with senior leaders as a contributor of thoughts, provider of findings and author of analyses and recommendations.
