The Role

We’re 1st Central, a market-leading insurance company utilising smart data and technology at pace. Rapid growth has been based on giving our 1.4 million customers exactly what they want: great value insurance with an excellent service. And that’s the same for our colleagues too; we won Insurance Employer of the Year at the British Insurance Awards 2024 and our Glassdoor score is pretty mega too!

Are you a detail-lover with a curious mind and a passion for finance systems?

We’re on the lookout for a Finance Systems Analyst to join our brilliant Finance team here at 1st Central. You’ll be supporting the Group Finance Systems Manager in keeping our core financial applications running smoothly – from system changes and reporting, to technical support and continuous improvements. If you’ve got a natural problem-solving mindset and love learning new things, we’d love to hear from you!

We’re all about flexible working, ideally, you’ll be based near our Haywards Heath, West Sussex office - where you’ll spend most of your time working from home, popping into the office just once a week to collaborate and catch up with the team (because let’s face it, in-person chats are still pretty great sometimes!).  Prefer being in the office more often? That’s totally fine too – we’re happy to support what works best for you.

Not based in the South? No problem – if you’re closer to our Salford Quays, Manchester office, or even a bit further afield, we’re still keen to hear from you. All we ask is that you’re happy to travel to Haywards Heath once or twice a month to stay connected with the wider team.

  • Adaptable - things move fast here, so you’re flexible and happy to pivot when priorities change.
  • Attention to detail - you care about getting things right and spotting the small stuff others might miss.
  • Hands-on experience - as a finance systems administrator, or in a finance change role – you’re used to being the go-to person when things need fixing, improving or understanding.

What’s involved:

  • Lead on the management and delivery of small-scale projects with the help of 3rd party support.
  • Lead the prioritisation of any incidents and issues, liaising with relevant stakeholders and 3rd party support/vendors to agree actions, owners and dates

  • Design, test and implement technical system changes to deliver ongoing continuous improvements to Finance
  • Assist in the design and production of Workday reports, Business Processes, and Integrations
  • Build effective working relationships and influence across all levels, fostering an open and collaborative culture
  • Manage and lead finance system updates and maintenance development work across all finance systems
  • Challenging current practices, actively seeking to improve processes, whilst managing risk
  • End user set-up and security maintenance, as required.
  • Comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies at all times
  • Ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times

Experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Experience in a finance or accounting function, ideally with hands-on involvement in finance systems – whether as a system administrator or in a finance change role
  • Experience with ERP, General Ledger or P2P systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, especially Excel
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organization skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to drive process improvement, based upon analysis of data
  • Work effectively under pressure and think clearly and logically in challenging situations
  • Workday and TM1 experience an advantage
