Playing a hands-on role in a manufacturing environment, this position provides accurate and commercially meaningful financial information to support organizational management. Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, this office-based role combines management accounting, financial reporting, manufacturing costing, cash-flow and inventory management, financial control, budgeting, forecasting, and business intelligence.
The opportunity involves collaborating closely with the Managing Director and operational leadership to evaluate financial and operational performance, identify risks and opportunities, investigate variances, and deliver practical financial insights to guide decision-making. The role takes significant responsibility for the integrity and usefulness of company financial data, while exercising financial oversight across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger in coordination with the Financial Controller.
The outcome expected relies on translating complex manufacturing numbers, inventory metrics, and costing data into actionable intelligence. By converting existing reporting into automated dashboards and improving data visibility, the incumbent directly influences costing, pricing, margins, production efficiency, and overall business profitability.
Management Accounting & Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly management accounts, conduct detailed balance sheet and income statement reviews, and deliver financial performance analysis to senior leadership.
Manufacturing Costing & Variance Analysis: Oversee standard costing, product costing, customer profitability, and margin analysis while evaluating material, labour, overhead variances, recovery rates, and production efficiencies.
Business Intelligence & System Development: Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and management reports, converting manual spreadsheet reporting into automated, data-driven solutions to enhance visibility.
Inventory Control & Analysis: Conduct inventory valuation, stock ageing, stock-turn analysis, obsolescence assessments, and stock forecasting within the manufacturing operational ecosystem.
Cash-Flow & Financial Control: Direct daily cash-flow forecasting, manage working capital, perform budgeting and latest estimates, and ensure robust financial reconciliations and internal controls.
Commercial Support & Decision-Making: Investigate the operational drivers behind financial variances, challenge assumptions constructively, and provide practical recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Operational Oversight: Provide financial oversight and guidance to the processing team across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger accounts
RequirementsEssential Requirements
Completed BCom Accounting, BCom Financial Accounting, BCom Management Accounting, or an equivalent accounting/finance degree.
Minimum 5 years’ relevant post-graduate accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 to 3 years in a senior accounting, management accounting, or financial management role.
Proven, practical experience operating within a manufacturing, production, or factory environment.
Strong technical background in management accounting, standard costing, Bills of Materials (BOM), product costing, and margin analysis.
Practical experience using Power BI for report development, dashboard creation, and data analysis.
Demonstrated experience with ERP systems, inventory reporting, cash-flow forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
Advanced Excel capabilities.
Relevant additional training or certification in management accounting, manufacturing costing, financial analysis, Business Intelligence, data analytics, or Power BI.
Experience working specifically with Syspro ERP.
Experience with customer-specific costing, customer profitability analysis, and labour and overhead recovery calculations.
Prior experience in a multi-currency manufacturing environment or working directly with MD/Director-level management within an entrepreneurial manufacturing firm.
Practical experience with SARS and statutory financial requirements.
