Do you want to play an impactful role in the continuous management of NN’s Financial Economic Crime (hereafter: FEC) risks for the Non-Life department of Nationale Nederlanden? We are looking for a FEC lead who can help Non-life become in control of regulatory risks and comply with sanctions regulations.
As a financial institution, NN is subject to regulation with respect to Anti-Money Laundering, Combatting the Financing of Terrorism, and Sanctions. In the role of gatekeeper, NN must safeguard the integrity of the financial system. Therefore, NN must have a framework in place to manage its Financial Economic Crime risks and comply with the relevant regulations.
In 2022, NN launched an organization-wide FEC program to set up the FEC framework across the organization. Components of the program included, amongst others, the design and implementation of the central client screening process of NN, the establishment of minimal data requirements, and the design and implementation of a central risk engine and KYC workflow tool in Salesforce. These developments form the basis of our current FEC operations.
Aside from the central FEC 3.0 programme, Non-life has set up a Non-life programme, the BAU unit, and an Operations Office. Additionally, C&D is involved in the technical development of systems.
To accelerate the overall progress of FEC within Non-life, we are now sourcing a FEC lead and a Strategic Program Manager for FEC.
What you are going to do
As a FEC lead for Non-life, you will have to understand both the business as well as FEC requirements, needs and processes, and form the linking pin between the business and the second line to accelerate FEC. The FEC lead will functionally manage the Strategic Program Manager FEC, the FEC experts and the FEC coordinators across the Non-life organization.
As the FEC lead, you will help all FEC colleagues within Non-life grow FEC knowledge, improve processes and standards, increase awareness, perform and safeguard quality and data control, and support management reporting for the CARC (Client Acceptance Risk Committee). Also, you will be responsible for accelerating the development of various FEC processes and setting up a tested FEC control framework that identifies shortcomings and creates action plans to successfully ascertain risk levels.
You will work closely with various teams within the company, including Legal, Risk, and Compliance, to ensure a secure and ethical environment for our customers and the organisation. You are a leader who can inspire, motivate, and coach, with proven experience in (multi-disciplinary) team management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing changes to the Sanctions law and standards in the first line
- Monitoring KYC/Sanctions legislation and Dutch Central Bank (DNB) guidelines, translating these into policies, and updating them to reflect market evolution
- Ensuring the timely completion of CDD reviews and periodic quality assessments of CDD files
- Aligning with the second line, managing expectations, and communicating proactively
- Tracking and driving the acceleration of various processes
- Establishing and assessing KYC/Sanctions/Exit processes and an effective internal control framework (ECF)
- Sitting on and preparing documents for the CARC (Client Acceptance & Review Committee), where high-risk files are discussed

Who you are
We are looking for someone with a strong sense of responsibility, results-driven, and who leads in a people-oriented way. You possess excellent analytical skills, with which you can oversee, abstract, and combine relevant information to monitor business as usual and drive change at the same time. You need to be able to work autonomously, yet collaborate with people from various disciplines and hierarchical levels. You have strong communication skills and know how to engage your stakeholders in the right way. You aim to learn every day and want to help Nationale Nederlanden realize its ambition to be an industry leader.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business Administration, Law or Legal studies, or related field
- At least 3 years of demonstrable knowledge and experience working in FEC/AML
- Skilled at conceptual thinking, strategic analyses, data management, budget management, reporting, and presenting
- Excellent command of both Dutch and English, written and spoken
Who you will work with
As the FEC lead you will become a part of the Strategy & Transformation Office, which is positioned within the Strategy, Data, IT & Pricing (SDIP) department of the NN Non-life business line. Within this team you will be working with other Strategy & Transformation Office colleagues that conduct market- and customer analyses, develop strategic advice, and execute complex initiatives and programs across the Non-Life business line. Although our colleagues work autonomously on their individual topics, we value and stimulate collaboration by sharing insights and learnings among the team. Aside from the Strategy & Transformation Office colleagues, you will work closely with other (senior) stakeholders and teams within the Non-life business line.
