Your New Role
Manage, supervise, coordinate, and direct the maintenance, repair and construction of new and existing electro-mechanical equipment and systems. Manage SMART building technologies, Environmental Health, and Safety (EHS) programs, fire systems and oversee compliance reporting. Ensure the continuous uptime of the central mechanical plant and associated campus wide systems. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Physical Plant to design and implement an effective preventive maintenance program for all electrical, mechanical, and architectural components, systems, and structures.
  • Use remote automation to install energy saving setback programs in non-critical office environments.
  • Manage work priorities according to criticality of the equipment, and systems served.
  • Oversees employee scheduling and reviews timesheets as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required or as assigned by the Director of Physical Plant.
  • Determine the reasons for component, systems, or structures malfunctions; decide upon corrective actions and functions to ensure proper and timely repairs; adjust preventative maintenance schedules accordingly.
  • Read and interpret electrical, electronic, mechanical, plumbing, and architectural drawings, operations manuals, control schematics, etc.
  • Vendors - Secures ordering information and prices for materials, equipment, spare parts, replacement equipment, etc., and exchanges information and relevant application data.
  • Provides requested input to help in developing long term capital investment planning and risk assessments.
  • Provide performance input to the Director of Physical Plant for consideration during assigned personnel merit review, in accordance with company policies.
  • Set and manage staff goals.
  • Delegate duties and responsibilities to assignees with full recognition that overall accountability is retained and see that assigned personnel perform on their own initiative and without prior approval all the activities described in their position descriptions.
  • Orient new employees and help train them regarding shift O&M required routines.
  • Interview applicants and select candidates to be hired subject to approval.
  • Manage Facilities related projects.
  • Assists and manage all aspects of company projects to include discovery, drawing review, construction punch lists, space/equipment commissioning, power shutdowns, fire/life safety testing and technical assistance to Project Managers.
  • Maintain/develop current training and personnel development programs.
  • Maintain FMS (BAS) and fire alarm systems.
  • Conduct building emergency evacuation and fire drills.
  • Develops and tests equipment failure emergency action procedures.
  • Coordinates work schedules as assigned by the Director of Physical Plant. Travel away from the facility may be required in the event of breaking news. Subject to 24 hour per day and 7 days per week on call responsibilities. The news and entertainment environments require flexibility in work hours.


Qualifications & Experience
Work Experience

  • National Institute for Uniformed Licensing of Power Engineers Chief Engineer or equivalent certification with a minimum of ten (10) years of directly related and progressively responsible supervisory experience in an operational commercial environment including datacenter/critical infrastructure operations, scheduled and reactive maintenance actions, life safety and fire/sprinkler systems and 24/7 HVAC department operations.
  • Specific competencies include operation of chillers, boilers, pumps, valves, air handling equipment, CRAC's, CRAH's, Building Automation Systems (BAS), Variable frequency drives and cooling towers is essential.
  • Must possess a detailed working knowledge of electrical/mechanical components, systems and structures, tools, test instruments and the proper procedures related to installation, start-up, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment.


Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Chief Engineer License of NIULPE or equivalent
  • EPA Universal or class II certification
