The team

The Hiscox London Market Exposure Management Team comprises 7 people based in London. The role of the team is to help Hiscox London Market to deliver its underwriting goals by controlling the level of Catastrophe exposures in the different Lines of Business. The team is highly motivated and committed to ensure that all decisions involving catastrophe risk, modelled and non-modelled, are based on the latest science, information and analysis, and are carried out in a coherent fashion throughout the organisation.

The role

In the position of Exposure Management Analyst, you will first and foremost help to meet our goal of:

“ensuring that there are no surprise losses by providing actual or possible risk exposures throughout the business cycle: business planning, plan execution and portfolio run-off”

What does this mean in practice?

Business as usual support

Your priority will be to ensure that the Underwriting Teams are equipped with the latest exposure information and are provided with insights upon the direction of travel of the portfolios exposures. 

A good amount of time will also be spent on delivering exposure roll-ups to the Hiscox Group to meet internal, Investor and Regulatory requirements.  You will be responsible for ensuring that the data, methodologies and assumptions used are correct and up to date and that results have been reviewed by and communicated to the Underwriting team. 

Driving change

Through your own drive and working together with highly experienced Underwriters, Pricing Analysts, the Group Exposure Management team and external service providers you will strive to continuously improve our approach to exposure management and be leading implementation of meaningful ways to answers exposure management related questions.  In addition there is the need to move the existing processes forward and implement new and better ways of working through a controlled environment so more focus can be put on analysis and delivering insight back to the business.

The requirements

This role is suitable for a high performing and enthusiastic individual who can associate themselves with the following:

  • You have a strong interest in working in the Insurance industry, particularly within Risk Management.
  • Teamwork is important to you which extends to close collaboration with a variety of stakeholders to provide exposure management insights
  • You can visualise problems and have the ability to communicate problems and results effectively as well as challenge stakeholders to the “so what?”
  • This is a challenging position as the demands of the various stakeholders are increasingly complex and diverse that require structured and quick thinking. This doesn’t scare you as you are highly organised, can work through processes efficiently so you can provide your Value Add through analysis and communication.
  • With an innate drive of continuously improving the way you work, increasing your subject matter knowledge and commercial understanding you will be eager to engage with the stakeholders to frame your work in the correct context.
