About the role
We are looking for an Expert in New Jewellery to support our New Jewellery Team.
As an Expert, you will be closely involved with evaluating and arranging lots submitted by our users. Using your expert knowledge and extensive commercial network, you will be responsible for creating attractive lot listings every week. You visit existing and potential new sellers. When started, you provide them with a great onboarding experience, supporting the submission process as well as providing guidance in generating the right quality.
Catawiki strives to keep user transactions as transparent and fair as possible, and your expertise and experience play a large part in maintaining this standard; you know better than anyone what items are of interest to our users. You will review lot titles, descriptions, and pictures, and provide users with an estimated value based on this information.
Your efforts result in exceptional auctions that bidders will find irresistible. We also expect you to keep your own auction interesting by working with our sales department, thereby drawing in new sellers and diversifying the selection of lots offered at your auction.
What you'll do
- Be responsible for curating auctions on a weekly basis
- Screen lots submitted by our users and use your expert knowledge to value them.
- Understand and analyse KPIs and suggest possible strategies to fix underperformance or suggest strategies to grow
- Leverage your extensive network to bring in new buyers and sellers
- Liase with Account Managers to bring in new business and diversify the selection of lots offered in your auction
- Work with our marketing team to generate an increase of potential seller and bidder attention for your category auctions
- Liase with the Business Developers to bring in new key accounts and top sellers, that diversify the selection of lots offered in your auction.
- Attend fairs and exhibitions, to meet existing sellers and new buyers.
What you’ll bring
- Gemmology Diploma from one of the schools recognised by the FEEG, or GIA.
- 5-10 years experience in the jewellery trade with knowledge in the manufacturing process and quality control.
- Experience in appraising & assessing jewellery set with various precious stones.
- Good grasp of market prices and good understanding of the various layers needed when curating a lot online.
- Experience analysing and implementing data within your work, and utilising data for future growth and category improvements
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good computer skills.
- A network of potential sellers and experts in your field.
- The diplomatic competence needed to act as mediator in disputes between users when needed.
- You are a natural team player and thrive in a diverse environment
- High command of a European language both verbal and written.
- Fluent in English

Our offices and way of working
We have sensational offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon. Most of our employees are within commutable distance of one of our office locations and enjoy a hybrid work model. This means we expect you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with each other. The exception is of course, if the job description specifically states that the role is 100% remote, as some experts and sales positions are.
