The Role

Black Semiconductor is looking for a motivated and hands-on Etch Equipment Engineer (f/m/d) to join our semiconductor fab team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to develop technical expertise while supporting the installation, qualification, maintenance, and continuous improvement of dry etch manufacturing equipment within our state-of-the-art semiconductor facility.

In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers to ensure high equipment availability, reliability, and performance while gaining exposure to advanced semiconductor manufacturing technologies. You will collaborate closely with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, and external equipment suppliers to troubleshoot technical issues, optimize equipment performance, and support the successful ramp-up of our pilot-line operations.

What you will do

  • Support the installation, qualification, and startup of new semiconductor process and manufacturing equipment.

  • Complete the onboarding and technical training program, developing the knowledge and skills required to support semiconductor manufacturing equipment independently.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of dry etch equipment to minimize downtime and maximize tool uptime.

  • Monitor equipment performance and utilize statistical process control (SPC) methods to identify, analyze, and resolve equipment-related issues.

  • Analyze equipment and process data using data analytics tools to support assigned projects and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, throughput, safety, and overall cost of ownership.

  • Collaborate closely with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, and Facilities teams to achieve production goals and execute equipment-related improvement projects.

  • Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for equipment failures and recurring technical issues.

  • Gradually take ownership of assigned tasks and small projects with decreasing supervision, while proactively seeking guidance when needed.

  • Work with equipment vendors and internal stakeholders to support equipment upgrades, modifications, and qualification activities.

Your profile

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.

  • Recent graduate or up to 2 years of relevant experience. Internship, research, or hands-on laboratory experience in a semiconductor manufacturing or fab environment is an advantage but not required.

  • Basic understanding of equipment systems, including mechanical, electrical, vacuum, gas, or fluid handling systems, along with a structured troubleshooting approach.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret equipment and process data using data-driven methodologies. Experience with SPC or other analytical tools is an advantage.

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems, exercise sound judgment, and recognize when to seek guidance from more experienced team members.

  • Hands-on, proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • Ability to adapt priorities and responsibilities to support changing business needs in a dynamic startup environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

  • Fluency in English.
