Seeking an experienced Securities Lending Trader to join a dynamic Securities Finance team responsible for securities lending trading, lender relationships, inventory optimization, and platform development.
The successful candidate will play a key role in borrower and lender coverage, with particular focus on hard-to-borrow markets and single-stock opportunities.
The individual will leverage market intelligence and trading expertise to maximize lending revenue through strategic pricing, inventory deployment, client engagement, and identification of financing opportunities across global equity markets.
The role requires close collaboration with Prime Brokerage, Securities Lending Product and Distribution, Equity Trading, and Risk Management to deliver financing solutions and enhance the firm's securities lending platform.
Key Responsibilities
Securities Lending Trading & Market Intelligence
- Borrow and lend securities to facilitate client short sales, financing transactions, and market-making activity.
- Manage and optimize daily borrow and lending activity across a diverse portfolio, balancing client demand, inventory availability, funding considerations, and risk.
- Price and execute securities lending transactions to maximize revenue and optimize inventory.
- Partner with Delta One Trading on strategic pricing, inventory optimization, and revenue opportunities.
- Identify hard-to-borrow opportunities, special situations, and supply-demand imbalances across global equity markets.
- Monitor borrow availability, utilization, fee trends, corporate actions, and market events to anticipate changes in demand and financing opportunities.
- Produce actionable single-stock market color, borrow intelligence, utilization trends, and liquidity insights for internal trading desks and institutional clients.
Lender Coverage & Client Relationship Management
- Own a portfolio of institutional and retail lender relationships, driving monetization initiatives and maximizing participation across lending programs.
- Partner closely with Securities Lending Distribution to source inventory and deliver financing solutions to hedge fund and institutional clients.
- Develop initiatives to expand lender participation, increase wallet share, and grow lending revenue
- Represent the firm's securities lending platform and financing capabilities with external counterparties.
Risk Management
- Monitor borrow availability, concentration, settlement, liquidity, and counterparty risks.
- Ensure trading activity remains within established risk limits and regulatory requirements.
- Incorporate market conditions and financing dynamics into prudent trading and inventory decisions.
Platform & Cross-Functional Development
- Partner with Prime Brokerage, Securities Lending Product and Distribution, Equity Trading, Risk Management, Legal & Compliance, and Technology to improve client solutions and platform capabilities.
- Help enhance trading workflows, automation, inventory management, and dynamic pricing capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to improve trading efficiency, market intelligence, and client service through technology and data.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
