OUR MISSION

The peaceful use of space is essential for continued prosperity on Earth—from communications and finance to navigation and logistics. True Anomaly builds innovative technology at the intersection of spacecraft, software, and AI to enhance the capabilities of the U.S., its allies, and commercial partners. We safeguard global security by ensuring space access and sustainability for all.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity
  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together

YOUR MISSION

True Anomaly is looking for an experienced Environments & Structures Test Engineer to join our team and lead the design, development, and execution of environmental testing for spacecraft structures and components. In this role, you’ll be responsible for running tests in vibration, thermal chambers, EMI/EMC, TVAC, and other environments to validate the performance and integrity of spacecraft hardware. You will be involved in building out test setups, establishing hardware infrastructure, and ensuring that spacecraft systems meet mission-critical standards in challenging conditions. Bring your expertise in component-level testing and environmental simulation to a fast-paced, production-focused environment with same-year space flight results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of environmental testing, including vibration, thermal, EMI/EMC, TVAC, and other stress tests for spacecraft structures and components.
  • Develop and maintain test setups and infrastructure, including vibration test rigs, thermal chambers, EMI/EMC testing environments, and TVAC chambers to simulate space conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams (structures, avionics, propulsion, GNC) to define test requirements, ensuring that environmental testing aligns with spacecraft subsystem needs.
  • Plan, execute, and analyze component-level tests to validate the structural and environmental integrity of spacecraft systems, including payloads, avionics, and propulsion systems.
  • Design and implement test procedures for thermal, vibration, and vacuum testing to ensure spacecraft components can withstand the harsh conditions of launch, space environments, and re-entry.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during environmental testing, coordinating with cross-functional teams to determine root causes and develop solutions.
  • Ensure the integrity of test setups by overseeing the calibration, maintenance, and validation of test equipment to meet required performance standards.
  • Perform post-test analysis on test data, ensuring all test results are thoroughly documented and compliant with relevant standards and mission requirements.
  • Build and maintain test infrastructure to support ongoing testing, ensuring the ability to scale and adapt to future mission needs and evolving technologies.
  • Document and report test results, producing test reports, analysis, and certifications that meet both internal and external requirements.
  • Support the development of test scripts for the validation of spacecraft hardware, including ground testing and flight validation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5-7+ years of professional experience in environmental testing of spacecraft, focusing on vibration, thermal, EMI/EMC, and TVAC testing.
  • Strong experience with component-level testing for spacecraft structures and subsystems, including payloads, avionics, and propulsion components.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with vibration test equipment, thermal chambers, EMI/EMC testing, and TVAC (thermal vacuum) chambers.
  • Deep knowledge of environmental testing methodologies and the ability to design and execute test procedures that simulate launch, space, and re-entry conditions.
  • Experience in building and maintaining test infrastructure, including designing test setups, maintaining equipment, and ensuring system scalability.
  • Proficiency with test automation tools, data acquisition systems, and real-time control for environmental simulations.
  • Experience with failure analysis and the ability to identify root causes of issues in structural and environmental tests.
  • Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC standards and testing procedures to ensure spacecraft meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
  • Proven ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and adhering to stringent timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed test reports, documentation, and presentations.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, or other industry standards for environmental testing in aerospace applications.
  • Experience in test automation and integration of automated systems for vibration, thermal, and vacuum testing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental simulation hardware such as shaker tables, vacuum chambers, and temperature control systems.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition software and the analysis of test data from environmental tests.
  • Experience with spacecraft structural validation, including finite element analysis (FEA) for vibration and thermal stresses.
  • Experience working with rapid prototyping or start-up environments, where fast-paced iteration and quick turnaround on test results are key.
  • Certifications in environmental testing or related fields (e.g., thermal and vibration testing certifications).

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary:  $80,000 - $125,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.
