Indorama Ventures is currently looking for an Environmental Specialist/Engineer to join our Indovinya team located in the Woodlands, TX. In this role, you will support the sites within the segment to improve site environmental regulatory compliance, site compliance with corporate and business unit EHS requirements, and build environmental guidelines. This role will also assist corporate, the business unit, and sites with achieving company sustainability goals.

What will be expected from you?

  • Contribute to the Responsible Care 14001 strategy development for environmental and support the certification of the sites from the environmental perspective.
  • Develop Indovinya policies, procedures, and standards and enhance EMS system.
  • Provide compliance support to the sites for various multi-media issues.
  • Develop training modules for overall environmental awareness and site individual environmental functions.
  • Provide overall management support and site implementation support, as needed and applicable, for environmental tools and systems that would be selected/developed and then implemented.
  • Periodically evaluate negative trends regarding compliance, by looking at incidents and KPIs as necessary, in order to develop potential technical/financially feasible ideas and action items to facilitate improvement.
  • Support the sites in compliance reporting, as needed.
  • Provide environmental assistance to applicable stakeholder groups and site environmental/operations personnel on capital projects, including permitting and implementation of environmental compliance for new/modified equipment and processes.
  • Participate in industry and advocacy groups on behalf of Indovinya, including attending meetings and conferences.
  • Evaluation of new regulatory requirements for applicability, project operational/financial impact on the segment sites, and participate/manage, as applicable, the development and implementation of solutions to ensure compliance by specified compliance dates.
  • Assist site environmental/operations personnel with planning and implementation of compliance with new/revised state/federal regulations and permit/license conditions and standards.
  • Support the Indovinya Sustainability group with environmental metrics and developing and implementing, as needed, ideas to improve ESG both quantitively and qualitatively.
  • Manage and participate, as applicable, in EHS audits of sites.
  • Work with other departments to complete questionnaires received from customers.
  • Support corporate sustainability data gathering efforts.
  • Support, as needed, the R&D lab (IVTC) in The Woodlands with environmental compliance – in particular waste and any other assistance needed.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, site environmental, and site operations personnel with different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) initiatives as set forth by the Company. Participates in and completes company required training programs.
  • Assess, develop, manage as needed, and achieve solutions to significant environmental complexities while engaging with stakeholders and management.
  • Partner with procurement in evaluating, developing, and implementing contractor/consultant solutions (e.g, LDAR) that take advantage of economies of scale and scope to reduce overall cost while still maintaining the quality and flexibility required.
  • Manage costs, including evaluating strategic sourcing techniques and reduction opportunities, to assist in mitigating the risks of exceeding budgetary allocations and expenditures and overall assisting in developing ideas to reduce EHS operating costs.
  • Properly review, as needed, and required, consultant deliverable and site environmental personnel environmental compliance work products to ensure quality and conformance with regulations and agency requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relations with internal external stakeholder groups and pursue continued efforts to facilitate the global Indorama philosophy.
  • Participate in training to further skill sets to enhance existing skill sets and become more diverse.
  • Provide assistance and work on multi-disciplinary teams, when needed, with other stakeholder groups including, as applicable, Manufacturing, Sustainability Operations, R&D, Supply Chain, Legal, Project Management, Business Development / Commercial, other Business and Technical Functions, EHS, others.

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?

  • Minimum BS in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of environmental compliance and permitting within corporate and/or consulting.
  • Minimum 5+ years of air pollution experience with regards to compliance, regulation applicability, and permitting.
  • Minimum 5+ years of petrochemical or chemical industry environmental compliance and permitting.
  • Knowledgeable in federal/state/local environmental laws and regulations, including NSPS, MACT, applicability determination, and implementation of new/revised rules.
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) compliance and reporting.
  • Strong oral and written communications, including the ability to effectively present to both large and small groups.
  • Sustainability and/or GHG experience desirable.
  • International environmental experience desirable.
  • Experience interacting with environmental regulatory agencies.
  • HON compliance, including knowledge of recently promulgated revisions, desirable.
