As a pivotal member of our team, this role will play a crucial part in developing, implementing, and maintaining our digital data records retention (DDRR) strategy. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure we have a robust Enterprise Digital Data Record Management program that complies with legal and regulatory obligations.

FUNCTION:  

  • Support and assist in building and executing Digital Data Record Retention strategy. 

  • Support and assist in building corporate Digital Data Record Retention policy, standards, and operating model.  

  • Assist in establishing a prioritization framework and help build an implementation roadmap. 

  • Analyze legal requirements impacting data retention and work with relevant stakeholders to identify operational retention requirements. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine the bank's digital data records retention strategy in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. 

  • Assess and classify various data types, determining appropriate retention periods based on legal obligations and business needs. 

  • Assist with the development and implementation of robust procedures and protocols for data retention and disposal. 

  • Maintain the official repository for all Retention Schedules and any supporting documentation. 

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to consult internal stakeholders on data retention best practices and compliance requirements. 

  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure adherence to the retention strategy, identify potential risks, and propose corrective actions. 

  • Maintain Power BI dashboards and KPIs to track progress and compliance with the Digital Data Records Retention policy. 

  • Develop training materials, conduct training sessions, and present to cross departmental teams and stakeholders. 

  • Assist in responding to internal and external audit points as appropriate 

  • Stay current with evolving regulations and industry trends, updating the retention strategy accordingly to maintain compliance. 

  • Understand and adhere to the company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the company’s risk appetite.  

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.  

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 10 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years related experience.  

  • Strong analytical abilities, with the capability to assess complex data landscapes, identify patterns, and derive insights to inform retention strategies. 

  • Proficiency in data classification, retention policies, and data lifecycle. 

  • Familiarity with data analysis tools, data querying, and data manipulation (Excel, SQL, etc.) 

  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and articulate complex data retention concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to evolving regulatory landscapes.  

  • Strong PowerPoint design and presentation skills.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: 

  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation; familiarity with data preparation tools like Alteryx or similar.  

  • Thorough understanding of banking data and products, including transaction records, customer information, financial reporting, etc. 

  • Background in Ops, Finance or Tech with Project Management/Business Analysis skills.
