Position Summary
The Systems Engineer III architects solutions, acts as a subject matter expert and provides ownership of data protection solutions. The incumbent operates independently on complex assignments and cultivates highly successful relationships with our business units, technical implementation teams, management and vendors. The Systems Engineer III ensures that all data are protected and provides clear reporting and alerting to demonstrate the success and reliability of the enterprise backup platform.
Responsbilities
- Be a part of the storage and compute team with the primary responsibility to design, build and maintain the global data protection platform.
- Protect a variety of workloads including:
- On-prem Linux & Windows VMs VMware and AHV/Nutanix.
- Multi-protocol NAS workloads.
- SaaS, M365, AD, SQLServer, Oracle, MongoDB, DB2.
- Azure and AWS.
- Generation of reports, alerts and collaborate with server teams to remediate job failures and ensure backup compliance.
- Daily management of backup platform, jobs and remediate failed backup jobs.
- Architecting hybrid cloud solution as we migrate from on-premise data center to hybrid cloud (Azure, AWS and on-premise workloads).
- BCP/DR contingency planning, threat management.
- Manage DR replication and archiving jobs.
- ServiceNow integration for automated ticket generation and self-service.
- Manage Data Domain and VTL for BRMS/iSeries.
- Manage vendors for support escalations, contract administration, road mapping, etc.
- Leverage your compute and storage administration skills to assist other team members as needed.
Required Skills
- 8+ Years Data Protection/Enterprise Backup
- Experience with Rubrik data protection a must.
- Experience with protecting on-premises and cloud based workloads.
- Physical Rubrik and Cloud Clusters in Azure.
- Backup job reporting and alerting using built-in and external tools such as SolarWinds Orion.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, Perl.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking.
Desired Skills
- Linux, Windows administration.
- Storage platforms such as Dell EMC XtremIO, NetApp, IBM FlashSystem.
- Compute: Cisco UCS, Nutanix.
- Hypervisors: VMware, AHV.
- Azure, AWS.
- Ansible, Terraform, GitHub Actions.
Education & Experience
- Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus 8+ years of related experience.
Environment
- Must be able to work independently - 100% remote.
- Requires after-hours on-call rotation, 1 week at a time.
- Frequent after business hours and weekend work is required.
