Job Summary:
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for supervising, leading, and mentoring a multi-functional team of engineering and technical personnel in the completion of engineering development, testing, or research projects. The role will collaborate with other team leaders and departments to support program profitability and success. This position will be located in Livonia, MI.
As an Engineering Supervisor, you will:
- Manage staff and assign tasks to engineering and technical personnel in alignment to business goals and financial objectives
- Negotiate with customers to maintain relationships through prompt response to requests for additional staff and services, presenting solutions to meet business goals, customer goals, and execute project deliverables
- Support recruiting, interviewing, and execution of sound hiring decisions
- Guide, mentor and develop employees to follow technical procedures, safety protocols, and navigate company policies. Facilitate training as needed.
- Lead technical tool and process development to increase efficiency or capability.
- Identify and communicate to management additional resources needed for teams to excel
- Provide operational metric analysis to support business development discussion
- Maintain awareness of business financial goals and support customer quoting
- Collaborate with other team leaders and departments
- Maintain high level expertise in their field or sector
To be considered as an Engineering Supervisor, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience
- Minimum 2 years leading projects or teams
- Strong knowledge in at least one major automotive development area such as: Powertrain, Chassis, Structural, NVH, Electrical, Control Systems or equivalent
- Good knowledge of common laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition equipment, and data analysis techniques
- Strong skill with Microsoft Office products for communication and presentation
- Good personnel management, interpersonal, mentoring and leadership skills
- Good project management and customer relationship management skills
A successful candidate may also have:
- Master’s degree in engineering or business.
- 10 years engineering experience.
- 5 years experience leading projects or teams
- Good knowledge of automotive development process across multiple functions or sub-systems
- Strong personnel management, interpersonal, mentoring and leadership skills
- Strong project management and customer relationship management skills
