About the job
We are looking for a hands-on and forward-thinking Engineering Office Manager to lead our design office team at our site in Allschwil, Switzerland.
Our Allschwil site is a world leader in the design and manufacture of cryogenic pumps for the liquefied gas industry.
In this role, you will manage a team of design engineers and play a key role in delivering high-quality design solutions for customer projects. This role combines operational execution, team leadership, and process development.
You will report directly to the Technical Director of Alfa Laval Switzerland AG and actively contribute to performance, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering organization.
What you’ll do
Team Leadership & Management
- Act as the technical authority for the engineering discipline.
- Lead and develop a team of design engineers, driving documentation excellence and team growth through coaching, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Plan and allocate work across the team to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
- Act as the main interface between the Engineering Office and other departments for issue resolution and technical coordination (Purchasing, R&D, QHSE, Sales)
Project Execution & Technical Oversight
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet customer specifications, contractual requirements, budget, and deadlines.
- Review and validate design outputs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and internal design rules.
- Define, implement, and enforce design rules, best practices, and quality standards.
- Oversee the generation and consolidation of P&IDs in line with process engineering inputs and project-specific adaptations.
Process Improvement & Standardization
- Optimize engineering workflows by driving standardization, modularization, and automation of design activities.
- Develop and maintain standard design solutions
- Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives proposed by the team.
- Develop and maintain engineering tools, databases, and drawing systems.
Performance & Quality Management
- Define, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Engineering Office.
- Participate in project reviews, audits, and improvement initiatives.
What You Bring/Who you are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical or systems design within an industrial manufacturing environment (experience in cryogenic, process, or rotating equipment is a strong advantage).
- Proven experience in leading and managing a technical design team.
- Strong understanding of P&IDs, 3D layouts and applicable industrial standards.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and PDM systems (Vault) is a strong asset.
- Ability to combine hands-on technical expertise with effective leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge in pressure, Atex and or IECex equipment is a strong advantage
- Structured, proactive, and continuous-improvement–oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
- Fluency in English and French (written and spoken)
