The Role

Vestmark is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team in the design, development, and delivery of modern web applications.  Our fast-paced environment calls for a capable leader who can guide the team and manage diverse responsibilities with clarity and confidence. In this role, you will work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to develop robust, scalable, and high-performance applications.  This role operates in a hybrid work model based out of One Kendall Square, Cambridge MA or Wakefield, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, promoting a culture of collaboration, ownership, and innovation.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide strategic and architectural direction for application development, ensuring quality and performance across the stack.
  • Delivery Management: Collaborate with multiple teams to manage the software development lifecycle from planning to production.
  • Hands-On Support: While not a primary coding role, stay close to the code to provide guidance, unblock teams, and uphold engineering standards.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Translate technical discussions for business stakeholders and ensure alignment on goals and priorities.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional experience in software development, including at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience managing software engineering teams building scalable web applications.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and architecture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on team dynamics and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or similar web application frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js)
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
