ING is looking for an experienced IT Chapter Lead to strengthen its Wholesale Banking Lending organization. Our strategic direction is to create a fast, seamless, personalized & data driven digital Lending experience for borrowers, ING employees, investors, and regulators. Within the Tribe we re-design and digitize our end2end customer journeys to significantly improve our user and customer experience while staying regulatory compliant as well. This position is the IT Chapter Lead of the Dev Engineering Chapter in the Loan Origination & Monitoring (in short LO&M) area.
As an IT Chapter Lead (CL) in the LO&M are you are responsible for coaching and the PCE cycle (on both a personal and professional level) of the chapter members so that they can get the best out of themselves. You are responsible for the chapter for software development, including the engineers who develop the LO&M digital products.
The IT CL excels in one of these disciplines and helps developing, updating and embedding expertise in their field within the tribe through active participation in a guild dedicated to the discipline.
In addition to your role as chapter lead, you work as a Dev-Engineer in a squad, consisting of business and IT Dev and Ops colleagues, that work on improving the digital customer journey.
The team
As an IT Chapter Lead, you will report to the IT Area Lead of the area within the WB Tech Lending organization of ING.
Within Loan Origination and Monitoring area, we work on two product spaces: Loan Origination & Execution and Portfolio Monitoring Insights & Alerts. We have a couple of initiatives which will contribute to making the lending processes fully digital; reduce the time to yes and cash; digitalize and automate our loan origination and portfolio monitoring processes. We do this by rethinking and replacing current processes and tooling with new technologies, while ensuring compliance to policy and regulations by design.
This is a challenging area due to the high degree of complexity in processes and product offering. At the same time this is an Area which will directly impact the daily work of our Front Office and Risk colleagues globally and keep us compliant to European Central Bank requirements and local regulations.
Roles and responsibilities
You are an energetic IT Engineer with a passion for IT especially on Dev Engineering and a positive can-do mindset. You are a team player working as a core member of a multidisciplinary and cross-functional squad: a self-managing, autonomous unit with end-to-end responsibility for a customer journey whose primary driver is the customer perspective. You will be involved in the whole development lifecycle, from refining user stories to monitoring software in production. Close collaboration within and across the squads and with the consumer is of utmost importance for you.
You will perform the people management of your chapter members. You further develop and safeguard the knowledge and craftsmanship within the chapter and grow their mastery. You will be responsible to manage the demand and capacity of your chapter members and product spaces they are contributing to.
Your Key Responsibilities
As an IT Chapter lead
- You will be working as a Senior Dev Engineer, and this will be your role in the squad for 50% of your time. The remaining 50% you spend on building up expertise in your chapter and developing your chapter members.
- You strengthen the ING One Agile Way of Working as a role model while safeguarding the Orange Code.
- You will be overseeing a chapter of 7-10 engineers globally (Netherlands, Dublin, Manila and India), with some engineers reporting directly to you and others as functional manager, which you will closely collaborate with their hierarchical manager locally.
- You play an active role in hiring and retaining great sociable A+ engineers and giving them freedom to pursue quality software development with proper attention to continuous delivery
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
- You mentor and grow your chapter members to meet both their career goals and the organisation’s goals, driving engagement and results via inspiring leadership
- You are aware of gaps in the knowledge of chapter members that stand in the way of getting things done, you ensure they get discussed and addressed
- You create – together with the peer chapter leads and IT (Area) Leads - high-performing teams.
- You are aware of obstacles (organizational and technical alike) that interfere with the chapter members’ productivity and work with IT (Area) Leads to resolve them promptly
- You drive the innovation, enhancement and evolution of Dev Engineering technology together with your chapter members, forester adoption of global technology
- You maintain contacts with stakeholders and external parties (for example Product Leads, Vendors, TPP’s, API providers etc.).

Your Profile (Desired Skills & Experience)
- Master of Science in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
- You are genuinely interested in and understand corporate lending business and how our customers use our products. You stay up-to-day on how the business is changing and are able to think together with our business colleagues about how best to evolve our proposition
- You are passionate about growing and developing technical people
- You possess excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Have at least 2+ years of experience in a role as lead for engineers
- You love technology and naturally stay up-to-date on relevant new developments
- Excellent knowledge of Java, Object-Oriented Programming and Design Patterns
- 6+ years of experience in back-end development disclosed by RESTful API’s based on the SPRING framework.
- Experience in developing front-end web applications with JavaScript (ES6), HTML, and CSS as well in front-end design patterns and understanding of the concept of web components
- Experience and understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines. We work with Azure DevOps, Kubernetes on OpenShift
