Boku is looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the Merchant Settlement engineering team, whose mission is to move money efficiently and reliably and provide reporting capability for our global merchants. As the manager of this team, you will play a critical role in enhancing Boku capability to pay our merchant faster. This is a hybrid position based in London, UK, and you will lead a distributed team of Engineers, primarily based in London, with some remote.
What you’ll do:
- Manage a distributed engineering team within a globally distributed organisation.
- Partner with Product and Payment Operations to design solutions that support our business's goals, from inception to production.
- Lead the development of critical tools for Payment Operations, focusing on scalability, security, and reliability.
- Provide hands-on expertise and support to your team at every stage of the SDLC, including code reviews and system design reviews.
- Manage and participate in production support when appropriate.
- Recruiting, hiring, motivating, and retaining engineers
- Drive engineering best practices, maintaining a high level of expertise in your field.
- Project and resource planning
- Long-term planning that aligns with company goals and strategy
- Continuously collaborate with peers from other Technology teams.
- Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.

Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience managing a Technology team
- Strong technical background in Java
- Strong software design and architecture skills
- Attention to detail and strong organisation skills
- Strong experience using agile methodologies and tools
- Strong communication skills
Nice to Have:
- Experience working on high-volume and low-latency systems
- Experience working in a globally distributed environment.
- Experience working in payment or other regulated industry.
- Experience with some of the following technologies/frameworks/tools: Spring, JPA/Hibernate, MySQL, Redshift, JMS, Kafka and modern front-end frameworks such as React or Vue
- Experience with cloud technologies with AWS ecosystem & Kubernetes preferred.
