The Role

Workrise is hiring a Engineering Manager that will be responsible for enabling Engineers to develop great Product experiences.
In Belfast our Engineering Teams are focussed on building great Products & Technology, developing experiences & feature capability integral to our next generation marketplace.
We are focused on domain driven design, organised into agile cross-functional teams composed of Engineering, Product & Design.
We've been growing as a team and we are not done just yet, there is plenty of opportunity to shape how we deliver together.
You'll have the scope to coach and develop our capability, we like to leave things better than we found them & to improve how we deliver as a Team.
Essential Job Functions:
We'll be there to support you as you become familiar with our teams, product domains, tech stack and processes - generally how we all work together. This role will involve:

  • Coaching one or more domain teams of software engineers - dedicated engineers in Belfast & technology partnerships in Ukraine
  • Partnering with distributed Product Managers & Designers on product experience & feature capability refinement and translate into our teams technical delivery roadmap
  • Owning the delivery outcomes on product commitments, represent delivery on business reviews with shared insight from our team
  • Guiding continuous evolution of software development & delivery processes, facilitate the building of tools & best practices to make it easier for engineers to get stuff done
  • Contributing on platform direction, support roadmap & delivery planning iterations, solicit feedback loops to support our teams success
  • Developing opportunities to experiment & innovate, fosters research, prototyping & evaluation of new capabilities to improve the platform experience (relative to investments & scale)
  • Mentoring career growth & development of our engineers, guide our goals & performance review life-cycle in coaching for success
  • Supporting our growth & hiring plans (internal & external), collaborate on interviews & candidate engagement, foster diversity & inclusivity in our approach


Our main tech stack includes : Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes & Docker, Kotlin, Kafka, React.js, Typescript, Material-UI, Graph QL, Neo4j, Node.js, NestJS, MongoDb and Postgres. If you have production scale experience in a different stack (Go, Java, Python, Scala, C# etc.) and are interested in moving to a new stack then we should chat!

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • We're looking for a servant leader with a growth mindset that enjoys guiding software engineers with diverse technical backgrounds & experiences.
  • Demonstrable experience leading Engineering teams - it is not about the number of years but more about the type of exposure in developing high performing teams
  • Track record in building & deploying production scale platforms - you partner with distributed Product & Design teams to deliver engaging Product experiences
  • Proven success in growing & developing others - have coached engineers on developing their craft & supported their career progression
  • Self-directed & motivated - open-minded & resilient, embracing change and iterating rapidly
  • Strong delivery capability - you collaborate to get stuff done, are comfortable navigating conflicting priorities & deadlines, developing shared delivery roadmaps
  • Technology - while this is not a hands on role, sound exposure in & solid grasp of software development is key (familiarity with Cloud Native, Continuous Delivery, Developer Velocity, Development Methodologies, DevOps concepts etc)
  • Above all you'll get stuff done, more importantly, you'll collaborate to do the right things, in the right way to achieve the right outcomes
