Watershed is the enterprise sustainability platform. Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for voluntary and regulatory reporting including CSRD, and drive real decarbonization. Do you love to build great technology and great teams? Watershed is scaling a world-class engineering team, and as part of this we are starting an office in Mexico City and looking for our founding Engineering leader. This is an opportunity to both bootstrap a team and set the culture for an entire office. 

You will also work closely with Engineering leadership and Watershed’s co-founders to set the new team up for success in Mexico City. We already have successful engineering teams distributed across our offices in San Francisco, New York City, and London.

Although we view hands-on engineering and engineering management as parallel career paths, we believe that for this role especially we need a manager who is as comfortable in the code and engaging in very technical discussions as they are managing people and driving consensus across teams and stakeholders. 

You, along with the rest of Watershed’s leadership and people teams, will be responsible for building a diverse, inclusive, and hard-working organization. We are excited to work on this together!

In this role, you will:

• Be a founding leader in our Mexico City office and lay the foundation for Engineering expansion, through our next stages of company growth to $100M+

• Be a first-line manager leading the team that will own our Supply Chain product module.

• Hire, manage and mentor a local team of 4-8 engineers

• Be responsible for ensuring that your team delivers high quality software on time

• Partner with product managers, designers, tech leads, and peer engineering managers in the US and UK to align roadmaps and execution

You might be a good fit if you have:

• 4+ yrs of engineering team management experience

• 8+ years of software development and management experience in total

• Proven track record hiring great engineers

• Proficient coding skills with strong system design capabilities

• Good product sense and experience working closely with Product, Design and customers 

• B2B product experience, and a big plus if you have enterprise SaaS experience

• “Site Lead” experience with a distributed engineering organization is a big plus

This position is required to be in person in our Mexico City office.

Must be willing to work from an office 4 days per week (except for remote roles)

Watershed has hub offices in San Francisco, New York, London, and Mexico City and satellite offices in Sydney, Paris, and Berlin. Where we have offices, employees are expected to be in office for 4 days per week. Certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description if so.

What’s the interview process like?

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience interview (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel.
