About the Engineering Team

Our dedicated team is revolutionizing mental healthcare with comprehensive Provider and Patient Portals, empowering providers and patients alike. As we transition to a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), you'll play a key role in reshaping our systems, ensuring agility and scalability. In our event-driven architecture, we're navigating challenges to protect sensitive data. With the introduction of GraphQL, a Centralized Component Library, and an Authorization Service, you'll be part of our innovative strides. We are looking for engineering leaders who focus on two core values:

  • Rula is a young startup. We are growing rapidly. This is both exciting and chaotic. We are looking for leaders who are both comfortable with ambiguity, help tame the chaos, and are excited to grow with us.

  • Lead the engineering team at Rula in the creation and maintenance of foundational systems critical to the organization, encompassing authentication, authorization, and event streaming technologies such as Kafka, ensuring robust infrastructure support for distributed systems.

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of infrastructure projects, setting strategic direction and priorities to build and enhance the engineering organization's core building blocks, driving efficiency and scalability.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team, promoting best practices in infrastructure management and contributing to the long-term success of Rula by ensuring high availability and performance of all engineering systems. 

Qualifications

  • Basic requirements

    • 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams (including recruiting, retaining, and motivating engineers).

    • Experience operating with business objectives and delivering technical solutions to meet them.

    • Previous experience either building or leading an infrastructure or platform team.

    • Proficient in designing, optimizing, and managing cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), ensuring scalability and reliability for effective system management.

  • Preferred requirements

    • Experience collaborating closely within a dynamic "pod" structure, integrating with product and business stakeholders at Rula to align engineering efforts with business objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring that projects are delivered with precision and align with strategic goals.

    • A comprehensive understanding of the infrastructure requirements unique to small to medium-sized startups, from basic necessities to advanced systems, facilitating the creation of a scalable and efficient engineering environment tailored to Rula's growth and innovation aspirations.

    • Expert knowledge in designing and implementing Service/API architectures, leveraging this expertise to architect robust, scalable solutions that enhance Rula's product offerings and customer experiences.

    • Proficient in AWS infrastructure, utilizing a deep understanding of cloud services to optimize Rula's engineering operations, ensuring secure, resilient, and cost-effective solutions that support the company's dynamic needs.

    • Skilled in employing Terraform and Kafka within distributed systems, showcasing the ability to orchestrate complex deployments and data streaming processes, thereby enhancing Rula's operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making capabilities.
