About the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced data leader to join our Data Platform team. We’re looking for someone who’s equally interested in building a thriving team and maturing the data ecosystem at Gusto.

You’ll be involved in the entire product development process from setting the long term vision and initial strategic planning; all the way to launching and iterating on development and releasing features with your team.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Develop and own the roadmap for Gusto’s data lake and core ingestion systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the team by developing practices around professional development, performance management, and technical excellence.
  • Partner with Analytics Engineering, Data Science, and Governance teams to bring best in class solutions, helping the company harness its data to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Bring technical thought leadership to the broader Data team.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with the ability to rationalize the “why” behind decisions

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • 3+ years experience in a Data focused role.
  • 2+ years experience leading teams.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with the ability to rationalize the “why” behind decisions
  • Strong understanding of technical architecture and data infrastructure principles
  • Experience with AWS or other major cloud services

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $164,000-$204,000/year in Denver, Chicago, Miami, Austin and Atlanta, $188,000-$222,000/year in Los Angeles, and $199,000- $247,000/year for San Francisco, Seattle and New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
