About the product

We are establishing a new portfolio which will leverage blockchain and digital asset technology to deliver a new customer experience to customers in expansion markets. The business line will operate with the speed of a startup, but with the regulatory and operational substance of a bank and the resources of a multi-country group in support.

The Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead technology delivery for the new portfolio. As one of the first technical hires in the team, you will recruit and onboard the founding engineering team, establish the engineering culture and standards, leveraging the GoTymeX playbook, and build the integration framework that lets us plug in best-in-class infrastructure partners at speed.

The role is hands-on. You will set the architecture, make the build-vs-buy calls, lead vendor discussions and stay close enough to the code to make calls credibly from zero to one and beyond.

What you will do
  • Lead the engineering delivery end-to-end, covering wallet, payments, custody integration, KYC, ledger and account management, and the broader product layer that ties them together.
  • Recruit the founding engineering team; initially a tight pod, scaling quickly. Set the bar for hiring and shape the team's culture, rituals, and standards from day one.
  • Define and build our integration framework for infrastructure partners.
  • Make build-vs-buy calls. Partner with our architecture and product teams to define our approach to integrating best-in-class partners / building the product layer / leveraging the existing GoTymeX platform to support. You will own that line and defend it.
  • Establish and run an AI-native engineering practice with modern tooling as the default, continuous delivery, feature-flagged rollouts, synthetic users in production.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Compliance, Legal, and the existing GoTyme Bank and TymeBank engineering organisations to deliver a coherent, regulated proposition across multiple jurisdictions.

Requirements Must-have
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with 4+ years in a leadership role at a digital bank, modern payments company, crypto exchange, regulated fintech, or embedded finance platform.
  • Financial services and crypto experience. You have shipped regulated products, and you have shipped on-chain products.
  • Proven full-stack engineering experience across modern frontend frameworks and backend technologies, with the ability to make and guide architectural decisions across the entire stack.
  • Multi-vendor orchestration leadership, including an API-first setup approach and run at scale covering roadmaps, SLAs and support in commercial discussions.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring and building remote and hybrid engineering teams across multiple time zones.
  • Experience operating inside regulated fintechs across multiple jurisdictions; comfort working with compliance, risk, and regulators (e.g. MiCA, CASP, VARA, MAS DPT and equivalents).
  • An AI-native operating mode. You use AI tooling as a default, you have shipped with it, and you have an opinion on how it changes team shape and delivery cadence.
  • A 'build like a founder' approach; start-up or scale-up experience, hands-on with the product, comfortable with ambiguity, and biased to ship.

Strong plus
  • Build and configuration of modern distributed-ledger technologies.
  • MPC/HSM and signing-infrastructure experience.
  • Hands-on production experience across one or more of wallet and payment infrastructure, blockchain and distributed-ledger technologies, core banking platforms and ledger management, identity, fraud and risk systems including AML and travel rule tooling, and card issuing and processing.
  • Web3 architecture — wallets, MPC/HSM set ups, account abstraction, signing infrastructure, on-chain analytics.
  • Deep AWS knowledge and serverless-native experience (Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, DynamoDB).
  • Promote a data-first architecture experience as the foundation to define our product and developer experience in a complex regulated environment.
  • Experience as one of the founding engineers or first engineering leaders on a new product or business line.
  • Experience working with modern tooling and languages including but not exclusively Java, Python, Swift, Kotlin, Databricks, Datadog, AWS, LaunchDarkly.
