Data Engineering – Data Governance
The Data Governance Office is a central firmwide data office that is responsible for defining and driving data governance across the firm. It aims to:
- Bring better definition, transparency and understanding of the data produced and consumed across different areas of the firm
- Create and maintain the policies, standards, and procedures for data governance
- Bring consistency to the way data is modeled and represented across the firm
- Set expectations about data quality and drive a process to improve it
- Create visibility of findings, failures and violations of data governance
- Report on the state of governance framework processes and supporting data platform and tooling
The role is in the divisional data office for the Engineering Division which sit within the firmwide Data Governance Office. We are a global team, implementing the Data Governance policy. We need to show where data enters the firm and how it is transformed and reported and what data quality controls exist for critical datasets. We use this meta-data for regulatory requirements and to gain insights into our data - aiming to cut duplication, improve quality and respond faster to new business opportunities.
YOUR Impact:
- You will be part of the Data Governance Office, helping stakeholders to implement Data Governance Office guidelines, processes and policies across Engineering division.
- We work with divisional stakeholders, to provide transparency into where data enters the firm, how it is transformed/reported/classified, and what data quality controls exist for critical datasets. Our internal clients use this information to gain insights – aiming to eliminate duplication, improve data quality, respond faster to new business opportunities, and to meet regulatory requirements.
- You will use leading cutting edge and GS developed technology for visualizing data, workflows and lineage
- The firm is investing in a significant initiative to enhance data quality across the firm, to enable increased data commercialization, improved client experience, and satisfy regulatory requirements. This function is a key component of this initiative.
- Supporting the critical Adoption and Implementation function within the Data Governance Office
- Pro-actively engage with other members of Data Governance and Data Engineering to drive innovation to manage and improve data quality.

- Drive adoption of the firmwide data governance framework in the division.
- Manage initiatives to improve the quality of data governance.
- Interface and coordinate with project team(s) to define objectives, develop approach, create detailed schedules, provide status updates and prepare deliverables for projects.
- Document Data Lineage from source to reporting and ensure effective controls are in place from data entry to report production.
- Work with data consumers and producers to negotiate ownership of data
- Develop communication and reference materials that enable data consumers and producers to implement the data governance policy and standard
- Define and create appropriate data validation controls
- Provide data quality analytics that enable data consumers and producers to drive remediation efforts
- Partner with users and provide feedback on the strategic tooling to engineering teams for business use cases
- Build consensus across senior stakeholders
- Communicate progress to senior stakeholders and within the team

BASIC QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Maths
- 1-3 years’ relevant experience
