Daikin Applied is seeking a Designer II - Senior Designer to join our team. In this role, you will use computer-based design tools to develop parts and assemblies, create production-ready drawings, and manage Bills of Materials (BoMs) and product configurators. This is a high-output production design role operating in a fast-paced environment with weekly deadlines and a strong focus on supporting manufacturing needs. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in sheet metal design and manufacturing, along with the ability to manage large volumes of data with accuracy and efficiency. This position involves working within legacy systems and established workflows that are highly repetitive and detail-oriented. You will primarily support the Sustaining Engineering team, focusing on existing product lines, while also contributing to design modifications and improvements. From concept through final documentation, you will ensure designs meet standards for quality, manufacturability, functionality, serviceability, and cost. Location: Hybrid - Plymouth, MN
What you will do:
- Data Processing to support manufacturing
- Excel BoM work, VBA coding, Excel Macro design and use
- Establish Design SOP and process documentation
- Drive alignment across teams both externally and internally
- Create engineering documentation, including Solidworks, modeling, fabrication and purchase drawings that conform to Daikin standards
- Translate engineering/marketing intent into manufacturing working 3D layouts, detailed documentation and Bill of Materials and configurators
- Work with VAVE/Product Engineers and Production Engineers to provide 3D models and documentation for original designs or custom modifications of current products
- Exhibit a sense of design and mechanical aptitude with abstract thinking and reasoning skills.
- Demonstrate creative ability, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness through incorporation into design and configurator work
- Provide accurate estimates of tasks on projects and execute to your estimate. Work with project management to consume and communicate additional work estimates as needed
- Gain knowledge of design and manufacturing practices, processes, and Daikin products.
- Demonstrate an understanding of all current and legacy bill of material systems and product structuring logic
- Be part of and function in a team environment including cross-functional and inter-departmental teams
- Mentor less experienced drafters and designers within the team
- Potentially travel to other Daikin Minnesota or Mexico facilities as needed up to 10%
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ Years of related design experience
- Prior experience with sheet metal design or HVAC
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Experience with SolidWorks

The hourly pay rate for the position ranges from $28.61 - $47.04 in Minnesota. (The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls.
