Description
System engineering is a multidisciplinary organization that has been chartered with the goal of pulling together the highly complex and interconnected system that is the modern-day automobile. System engineering transcends the physical nature of any specific design, cutting across traditional engineering disciplines to allow for a customer focused execution of vehicle level features.
The Refrigerant Controls System Engineer will be responsible for defining the control system requirements and interface definition. You'll work with the other systems owners and technical leads responsible for components to ensure their control designs meet the system requirements. You'll lead DFMEAs for the system, and ensuring the system meets the General Motors safety requirements, feature requirements, and industry standards.
This Role Offers the Following Work Appropriately Strategy: Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and releases System Technical Specification
- Owner of all refrigerant controls for bevHEAT system
- Controls architect
- Work with RESS and HVAC thermal systems requirements and balancing across areas to execute in the most efficient, compliant manner.
- Establishing OBD requirements and driving architecture to hardware and software components.
- Balance electrical architecture requirements against thermal system requirements.
- Define heat source/sink modes for the system.
- Execution of controls requirements to achieve most efficient operation.
- Execution of safety requirements as function of hazard analysis.
- Utilization of requirement tools to capture requirements as it relates to the feature (DNG, FIT, etc.).
- Ensure system requirements meet Feature and Safety requirements.
- Participates in feature workgroups to develop and improve customer focused vehicle level features.
- Create System DFMEA
- Working with TRBs/ARTs to drive requirements and architecture into subsystem / component designs. Author/sponsor EPICs and create Needs.
- Work with subsystem and component teams to optimize system design.
- Support in the scoping of Advanced Technology Work (ATW) projects.
- Stays abreast of new technology, new processes and methods to predict and improve availability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Understand system development, verification, validation and vehicle manufacturing processes.
- Experience with CAN networking, OBD diagnostics, or Controls.
- Knowledge in thermal systems.
- Experience with requirements definition and development.
- High level of oral and written communication skills.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and with others to meet mutual goals.
- Experience with SAFe.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to travel up to 15%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiar with DOE (design of experiments).
- Familiar with calibration systems (INCA, Vehicle Spy, etc.).
- Familiar with Matlab/Simulink.
- Experience with energy practices and analysis.
- Production controls and calibration knowledge.
- Strong understanding of vehicle integration and/or have developed other systems that closely interact with powertrain controls and vehicle power subsystems.
- Understanding of system reliability, safety, monitoring, and diagnostic technologies and processes.
