Job Description
At PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), we believe that every person has the right to participate fully in the global economy. Our mission is to democratize financial services to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or economic standing, has access to affordable, convenient, and secure products and services to take control of their financial lives.

At PayPal, we're building experiences used by millions of merchants and shoppers worldwide, and our team is on a mission to provide sophisticated, tailor-made experiences to all of our users. PayPal has been at the forefront of building global-scale JavaScript applications and is a pioneer in the payments realm. Our passionate engineers continually question assumptions, experiment with new technologies and architectures, and collaborate to create engaging and innovative payment experiences.

As a Software Engineer for PayPal Checkout Engineering, you will operate across the software development lifecycle, from planning and architecture, to development, testing, deployment, and beyond. You will be responsible for developing industry-leading Checkout experiences that bring unquestionable value to both merchants and buyers.

In this role, you will be responsible for shaping the future of PayPal's customer-facing Checkout products, from payment buttons to transaction receipts, and every step along the way.

We're searching for talented, motivated technologists with a passion for building beautiful products and experiences. We value collaboration, communication, and a passion for achieving engineering and product excellence.

Things you'll do as a Software Engineer at PayPal:

  • Lead development and contribute to engineering efforts and demonstrate ownership of features and modules.
  • Contribute to the design and development of existing and new payment experiences using a wide variety of web technologies.
  • Follow and be a strong advocate for clean and scalable coding principles.
  • Be a champion of high-performance, secure, and reliable software services.
  • Collaborate effectively with product, design, and analytics team members to better understand what our customers need, and why.
  • Continuously learn and share your knowledge and experience with your peers, adjacent teams, and across the organization.

What we are looking for:

  • 4+ years of experience in building JavaScript applications, leveraging a variety of frameworks, and designing reusable components.
  • You have a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, a related field of study, or equivalent professional experience.
  • You are skilled in writing modern JavaScript or TypeScript across the stack, and you're very familiar with topics and technologies like React, GraphQL, and Node.js.
  • You care about writing high-quality code, and you've written your fair share of automated tests to back up your code.
  • You understand how different devices and form factors impact web applications and user experience.
  • You're passionate about creating compelling user experiences.
  • You're ultimately a problem solver, and you enjoy working both independently and collaboratively to identify the root cause of any issue.
  • You have experience mentoring less seasoned team members.
  • You're confident in collaborating with teammates in non-technical roles, such as marketing, finance, and legal.

Preferred skills:

  • Expertise in client-side application development, with a focus on flawless user experiences and interaction design.
  • Experience in payments processing or e-commerce domains.
  • Experience working in a global-scale SaaS environment.

We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. If you care about delivering great technical products with a willingness to learn and help, please don't hesitate to apply.
