Are you passionate about Networking, Cloud Computing, and Large-Scale Distributed Systems? Do you want to work on a fast-paced team that has a proven track record of delivering industry leading innovations? Are you highly passionate about customers, partners, and driving long lasting business value? If so, please read on ...
The Azure Networking team continues to innovate across the stack, pushing new scale and features into the cloud and desktop platforms while transforming our infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the 200-plus Microsoft online services, including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and several hundred thousand customers using Azure to host and run their Cloud Services in over 100 datacenters, running millions of servers and edge computing nodes all over the world.
Software Defined Networking (SDN) enables customers to realize and control the network they desire for their workload in the cloud. This includes traditional enterprise network functions like ACLs, firewalls, load balancers, IPS/IDS, DoS protection, that customers want to realize in the network for their VMs in the cloud. All these need to be delivered on a shared, very high speed but low-complexity physical network based on merchant silicon. And that is where the software comes in - all these can be realized and delivered in software by building a virtual network on top of physical network, using the virtualized host as the scale-out engine for all our policy, allowing the underlying physical network to be cheap and extremely fast. Azure SDN has created a new, software controlled virtualized network. As workloads move to containers, containers need virtualized networks that are extension of VM networks. Container networking is a new paradigm for SDN. It imposes stricter requirements in terms of scale, provisioning times, orchestrator integration and new networking abstractions like service mesh and service groups/tags.
This is an exciting opportunity to be front and centre and lead the paradigm shift in SDN to enable container networking. Engage with and drive disruptive technologies such as Container Network Interface (CNI), Network policy manager (NPM), Service Mesh, federation etc. This opportunity for container networking will enable you to define Microsoft's strategy in this fast-changing space, define and deliver on an execution plan and engage with and gain influence with the open-source community.ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for a software engineer to work on unique and highly visible projects in the SDN Container Networking area. The outcome will directly impact new business opportunities for Azure. You will be responsible for defining, driving execution and adoption of these capabilities that will have a significant business impact. You will have the opportunity to work in a broad range of technical areas, and across component teams inside Microsoft Azure, and within the Cloud & Enterprise division.QualificationsBasic Qualifications:

  • 3+ yrs. software development experience with focus on building distributed systems.
  • BS or MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ yrs. programming experience in Go (preferable), C#, Java, or C++ with solid engineering practices.
  • 1+ yrs. Cloud services development
  • Passion for building performant scalable services.
  • Detail oriented design, coding and outstanding technical problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Passion and drive for quality with experience designing and implementing automated tests, including unit tests and integration tests.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with distributed systems, large scale orchestration frameworks
  • Demonstrated and innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts that include continuous deployment, deployment automation, telemetry frameworks etc.
  • Experience working in a networking and distributed systems environment
