Job Description

Aqua Consultants are a multi-disciplinary consultancy providing a wide range of Asset Management, Engineering and Commercial services to our clients across the water, energy and environment sectors, across the UK.

What this role requires:

  • A general understanding of water and sewage treatment processes and the associated equipment/system requirements.
  • Understanding and assessing client needs and objectives to support the successful delivery of project requirements.
  • Ability to think logically and also creatively 'outside the box' to help provide differentiated solutions to problems, adding value for clients.
  • Working knowledge across both civil design – including drainage design, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) and industry standard drainage network design – and mechanical design, including the production of hydraulic calculations for pipelines and pump duties.
  • Competence in the use of AutoCAD; working knowledge of Civil3D and Microsoft (Office) 365 packages.
  • Working with Senior and Principal engineers to undertake civil and/or mechanical design, either individually or collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, to agreed standards of safety, time, cost and quality.
  • Production of design deliverables e.g. engineering documents, reports, assessments, calculations etc.
  • A good track record of delivering allocated project tasks on time and to budget.
  • First class written and oral communication skills.
  • A natural curiosity for developing innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for our clients.
  • Experience of team working on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Basic commercial awareness.
  • An industry applicable BEng, BSc, or equivalent in a civil or mechanical discipline.
  • Working towards a relevant professional qualification and Chartered / Incorporated status.
  • Keep up to date with relevant developments within the discipline and maintain CPD.
  • Assisting and supporting other members of staff when required.
  • Desire to understand and promote the Company purpose, vision, values, and culture.
  • Driving licence.

Responsibilities / Examples of work types:

  • Develop concepts and detailed designs for the water industry, across both civil and mechanical disciplines, working under the guidance of Senior and Principal Engineers.
  • Site surveys and assessments of the capacity of the plant to meet future demands.
  • Contribute to feasibility, outline, and detailed design work spanning drainage network and SUDS design through to P&IDs, hydraulic design, control philosophies and commissioning strategies.
  • Production of general arrangement drawings and detailed civil and mechanical design drawings.
  • Support design risk assessments, cost and programme estimations, plant and equipment specifications, and carbon calculations.
  • Technical report writing at stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Manage own workload, delivering allocated project tasks to time and to budget.
  • Co-ordination with multidisciplinary teams working on the projects and the site team; supporting client and stakeholder liaison.
  • Maintain awareness of changes in legislation, and develop an understanding of DSEAR, CDM, WIMES, British and European Standards and other statutory, regulatory, and non-regulatory provisions and guidance.
  • Participation in Hazard Studies including HAZOP, Access, Lifting and Maintenance.
  • Support bids, fee proposals or offers of service, and the development of activity schedules/work plans, as required.
  • Considering CAPEX and OPEX implications of design decisions at all stages of a project.
