Job Summary & Responsibilities

Who You Are

The Simulation Engineer will be responsible for robotic and system simulation services to the Process Engineering group.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, problem-solving professional who is customer-focused, results-oriented, and experienced in partnering with internal teams and customers to deliver solutions that meet or exceed expectations.

How It’s Done

  • Create and maintain robotic simulations using approved software, including ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, and Emulate3D.
  • Ensure proposed solutions meet required capacity parameters, including throughput, jobs per hour (JPH), cycle time, and annual capacity.
  • Ensure all reliability and maintainability data, including mean time to repair (MTTR), and mean time between failures (MTBF), reject rate, and availability, is accurately captured and used in throughput simulations.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend solutions to right-size the capacity of an operation.
  • Set up the safety scheme for the workcell in collaboration with other stakeholders.
  • Document all aspects of the workcell simulation, including cycle time, robot data sheets, DCS sheets, simulation videos, payload sheets, and related deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Process, Controls, Mechanical, and Project Engineering teams to validate system layouts, sequence logic, cycle time, safety zones, and integration assumptions before physical implementation.
  • Attend proposal reviews, project meetings, and design reviews, and support integration and hardware builds.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Exposure to and basic understanding of PLCs and other controls hardware, including HMIs, safety devices, and sensors.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard simulation software such as Siemens Process Simulate, Rockwell Automation Emulate3D, Siemens Plant Simulation, and FANUC ROBOGUIDE; equivalent software experience will be considered.
  • Experience deploying cells using virtual commissioning with the simulation software listed above, including connecting PLCs, HMIs, and robot controllers virtually to estimate cycle times and PLC scan times, and to validate sequence logic and error recovery with software engineers.
  • Experience performing throughput simulations using discrete event simulation software such as Siemens Plant Simulation, AutoMod, or Rockwell Arena.
  • Exposure to and basic understanding of how AMRs are used in the automotive industry, including the ability to set up simulation paths for AMR applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards, including ANSI/RIA R15.06-2012 and ISO 10218-1, as well as robotic system safety and risk assessment.

What Would Be Even Better

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in process/systems engineering.
  • 6+ years of work experience in robotic simulation using one or more of the software tools listed above.
