Ameresco has an opportunity for an Engineer in Training to join our team in Ottawa, ON. This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Project Development Engineers with coordination of customer project site visits to investigate existing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.

  • Gather and document project information including utility data, facility profiles, system operating characteristics, and site drawings. 

  • Perform detailed engineering assessments including baseline profiles, end-use and retrofit analysis.

  • Identify opportunities for conservation or efficiency and prepare energy savings calculations.

  • Participate in the development and production technical reports, cost estimates, proposals and presentations.

  • Provide critical review of proposals and reports through technical narrative editing.

  • Assist in the design of HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air distribution systems.

  • Perform load calculations using industry-standard software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700).

  • Prepare mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD and/or Revit.

  • Create new base building drawings, floor plans and system layouts from existing raster images, PDF, and JPEG images of original mechanical (HVAC) and electrical drawings.

  • Support the development of specifications, equipment schedules, and technical reports.

  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders.

  • Conduct site visits and assist in field reviews during pre-design, construction and commissioning phases.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.

  • Participate in internal design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Cultivate and foster positive customer relationships.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year technical engineering degree

  • One year of internship experience in the energy efficiency sector

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze and quantify energy and operational needs, use, and savings projections for energy savings performance contracts.

  • Knowledge of building simulation, project cost estimating, measurement and verification, and accounting desired.

  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Excel, AutoCAD, and energy analysis software.

  • Financial planning/ budget experience with ability to develop a business case helpful.

  • Strong verbal, written, computer, and technical communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and business relationships.

  • Travel may be required.
