Role Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to drive the architectural vision and technical excellence of our core systems. You will lead by example, mentoring engineers and solving our most complex scaling challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creative Architecture: Architect and scale high-performance, distributed Java backend systems, bringing bold, out-of-the-box thinking to solve enterprise-level challenges.
  • Tenacious Leadership: Act as a technical leader, motivating others, driving positive change, and taking accountability for mission-critical services.
  • Collaborative Mentorship: Go out of your way to help others succeed by mentoring junior engineers, avoiding knowledge silos, and inspiring the wider organization.
  • Open Transparency: Champion transparent internal communications regarding technical strategies, actively seeking views from the wider team before implementing new technical standards.

Requirements & Technical Skills:

  • Experience: 10+ years of proven experience in backend engineering, with a track record of delivering enterprise-grade SaaS products.
  • Advanced Core Java: Deep expertise in the Java ecosystem, including JVM internals, memory management, garbage collection tuning, and advanced multithreading/concurrency.
  • System Architecture: Extensive experience in designing and building scalable distributed systems, microservices architectures, and event-driven architectures. Strong understanding of high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.
  • Advanced Databases & Storage: Deep knowledge of database optimization, sharding, and replication. Experience with a mix of SQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and distributed NoSQL/columnar databases (Cassandra, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch).
  • Event Streaming: Strong expertise in high-throughput event streaming and messaging platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka).
  • Cloud Native & Orchestration: Production-level experience with container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes) and extensive experience operating in public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Security & Compliance: Solid understanding of backend security best practices, identity and access management (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML), and data encryption techniques.
  • Observability: Experience implementing robust monitoring, logging, and tracing using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or Datadog.

Skills Required

  • 10+ years proven backend engineering experience delivering enterprise-grade SaaS products
  • Deep expertise in Core Java and JVM internals, memory management, garbage collection tuning, and advanced multithreading/concurrency
  • Designing and building scalable distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures
  • Database optimization, sharding, replication experience with SQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL/columnar (Cassandra, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch)
  • High-throughput event streaming and messaging (e.g., Apache Kafka)
