Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer, DC Power is a technical engineer supporting Vertiv's Modular Power Converters product line. This role works to execute electrical design tasks, support new product introduction, and sustain existing products. The engineer will contribute to power conversion module design, distribution panel development, and controller hardware - gaining depth across the full DC power ecosystem while providing critical engineering bandwidth to the team.
Responsibilities:
- Execute electrical design tasks for DC power distribution systems (power conversion modules, distribution panels, controllers)
- Support new product introduction (NPI) activities - prototype builds, design verification testing, and manufacturing handoff documentation
- Perform circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout reviews for power electronics and control circuits
- Support VAVE initiatives by analyzing existing designs for cost reduction and performance improvement opportunities
- Assist with product sustaining activities - ECOs, design updates, component obsolescence management, and field issue resolution
- Conduct design verification and validation testing; document results and support compliance submissions
- Collaborate with global engineering teams on design reviews, specification clarifications, and technical issue resolution
- Support Customer Solutions and Proposals teams with technical input on product capabilities and configurations
- Create and maintain technical documentation - design specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 4+ years of experience in power electronics, power systems, or electrical product development
- Experience with circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout
- Knowledge of power conversion topologies (AC-DC, DC-DC) and power distribution systems
- Experience with design verification testing and lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DMMs)
- Familiarity with industry standards (UL, NEBS, NEC) as applied to power equipment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in telecom or data center power infrastructure
- Familiarity with DC distribution architectures (48VDC, 54VDC, 800VDC)
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, or PSIM for power system simulation
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI design practices and compliance testing
- Experience with digital control for power converters (DSP/FPGA)
- Previous NPI or product development lifecycle experience
- Familiarity with MRP systems (Oracle Fusion/EBS preferred)
- Experience with DFM/DFA and manufacturing process considerations
Travel Requirements:
- 5-10% including internationally
