We’re seeking a Process Engineer in a pivotal role within our technology department. You’ll be primarily responsible for leading and optimizing hot working processes for manufacturing Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel products. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in Metallurgical or Materials Science & Engineering to enhance process efficiency, product quality, and safety while supporting the development and standardization of new products and processes.
Other Responsibilities:
- Technical lead for various post-melt processes including open die press forging, radial forging, and hot rolling of Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel products.
- Develop and maintain metallurgical and operational expertise in processing of Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel alloys.
- Lead and support cross-functional programs to improve process right the first time, yield, cost, and cycle time.
- Resolve process-related non-conformances and reduce/eliminate scrap.
- Apply thermal/deformation modeling to evaluate and improve products and processes.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality personnel to improve manufacturing processes and standards that enhance safety, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Lead or participate in team-based continuous improvement activities including risk assessments, 5-why problem solving, CEDAC or cause & effect, process mapping, process audits, and standard work.
- Support internal/external customers by collecting and analyzing thermo-mechanical processing data.
- Support Product Engineering and R&D in the development, evaluation, and standardization of new products and processes.
- Provide technical support during customer audits.
Basic Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering.
- Internships and/or co-op work experience in a metals-related industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of work experience in a metals-related industry.
- General understanding of wrought metal processing (e.g., melting, press forging, radial forging, hot rolling, heat treatment).
- Basic statistics and data analysis using Excel or other statistical software.
- Six Sigma or related certification.
Skills:
- Strong technical background with a focus on metals processing and structure/property relationships.
- Eager to learn and become a technical expert and primary point of contact in area of responsibility.
- Technical writing/oral presentation skills.
- Good interpersonal communication skills at all levels.
- Comfortable being on the shop floor observing processes, interfacing with operators, and providing guidance.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and requirements to shop floor personnel in a clear, concise manner.
- Self-starter and ability to work independently as well as on a team.
- Uses scientifically rigorous, data driven approach to problem solving.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining composure and meeting established deadlines.
